Obamacare opponents warned that forcing companies employing 50 or more full-time workers to buy healthcare would prompt employers to slash jobs and worker hours. And that’s exactly what’s happening,says one of President Barack Obama’s favorite economists, Mark Zandi of Moody’s Analytics.“It will have a negative impact on job creation” this year, says Mr. Zandi. The Obamacare employer mandate doesn’t go into effect until January 1, 2014, but the government requires businesses to track worker schedules for three to 12 months in advance. That means many employers plan to get a jump start on avoiding Obamacare’s $2,000 per-worker fine by firing workers now, reducing employee hours, or replacing full-time employees with part-time workers. A survey by the International Franchise Association finds that 31% of franchisees say they plan to cut staff to duck under Obamacare’s 50-employer mandate. And another study by Mercer consulting firm found that half of businesses who don’t presently offer health insurance plan to reduce employee hours to avert triggering Obamacare’s penalties. As Breitbart News has reported, Pennsylvania Community College of Allegheny County has already slashed the hours of 400 adjunct instructors, support staff, and part-time teachers to sidestep the Obamacare fines. Doing so will save the already cash-strapped college an estimated $6 million. Other Obamacare provisions, like the medical devise excise tax, have forced Stryker medical supply to cut 1,170 positions, despite the fact that the founder of the company’s grandson was among Mr. Obama’s biggest campaign donors. Other medical device makers like Boston Scientific, Dana Holding Corp., Welch Allyn, Medtronic, Kinetic Concepts, and Smith & Nephew have similarly forecast the needs to cut hundreds of jobs each as the result of Obamcare. The day after Mr. Obama’s reelection, a Las Vegas employer fired 22 of his 114 employees citing Obamacare regulations as the culprit. Christine Ippolito of Compass Workforce Solutions says companies just under the 50 employee threshold now plan to hold off on hiring to avoid triggering the $2,000-per worker penalty. Ernie Canadeo, the president of EGC Group advertising agency, agrees. Mr. Canadeo sayshe had planned to hire 10 workers this year, but may wait so as not to cross the 50-worker mark. The looming Obamacare layoffs and hiring freezes come as a Labor Department report announced today that the unemployment rate remains at 7.8% (revised up from the originally reported 7.7%). Presently, 22.6 million Americans are either unemployed, underemployed, or marginally attached to the work force. |
‘Unconstitutional Laws Aren’t Laws’: Marine Who Penned Blistering Letter to Sen. Feinstein Over Gun Control Speaks Out
Cpl. Joshua Boston, the U.S. Marine whose scathing open letter to Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) over proposed new gun control legislation went viral, again vowed not to abide by any new law requiring him to register his firearms.
“Whatever happens happens. I have a right granted to me by the Second Amendment in our bill of rights and it says ‘shall not be infringed,’” Boston said Saturday on CNN. “Unconstitutional laws aren’t laws.”
Boston’s letter, titled “No ma’am,” was first posted on CNN’s iReport on Dec. 27 and quickly made the rounds on social media.
“I am not your subject. I am the man who keeps you free. I am not your servant. I am the person whom you serve. I am not your peasant. I am the flesh and blood of America,” the eight-year Marine Corps veteran wrote.
Boston said he wrote it after seeing all of the “misinformation” and “fear-mongering” coming out of the gun control discussion in the wake of last month’s mass elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn.
He said that with many gun control laws on the books already, new legislation will do nothing to deter criminals.
“There’s over 2,000 gun laws as it is and the fact of the matter is predators are amongst us and we have to recognize that fact. We don’t live in a utopia. Our citizens have to be armed to protect themselves from these mad men,” Boston said. “People will choose whether or not to carry if they want to. I’ve made that choice as have hundreds of thousands of other Americans should we unfortunately ever find ourselves in a situation to protect others in our lives we will.”
Feinstein’s office said in a statement she “respects Cpl. Boston’s service.”
“She has heard from thousands of people — including many gun owners — who support her plan to stop the sale, transfer, importation and manufacturing of assault weapons and large capacity magazines, strips and drums that hold more than 10 rounds,” the statement said. “As Senator Feinstein has said, the legislation will be carefully focused to protect the rights of existing gun owners by exempting hundreds of weapons used for hunting and sporting purposes.”

I will not register my weapons should this bill be passed, as I do not believe it is the government’s right to know what I own. Nor do I think it prudent to tell you what I own so that it may be taken from me by a group of people who enjoy armed protection yet decry me having the same a crime. You ma’am have overstepped a line that is not your domain. I am a Marine Corps Veteran of 8 years, and I will not have some woman who proclaims the evil of an inanimate object, yet carries one, tell me I may not have one.

The Republicans should be ashamed. They betrayed their fundamental principles and their constituents in exchange for a hollow public relations victory. Mr. Boehner may have saved his speakership, but the GOP is a fractured, demoralized party. He was elected as House speaker because of the efforts of Tea Party Republicans in the 2010 midterms. Their agenda was clear: hold the line on taxes, spending and deficits. Instead, the GOP has become complicit in passing Mr. Obama’s soak-the-rich, anti-business policies.
The Republican Party has capitulated to President Obama’s redistributionist tax agenda. Mr. Obama has won a significant victory. He has broken Republican ranks and effectively co-opted much of the GOP opposition. The Republican Party, especially House Speaker John A. Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, will rue the day.
Many House and Senate Republicans voted to pass the “fiscal cliff” legislation. Mr. Obama got almost everything he wanted: a massive tax increase on households earning more than $450,000 a year as well as major increases on capital gains, dividends and estate taxes. It is the largest tax increase in more than 20 years. Its primary victims will be small businesses, investors and job creators.
The deal amounts to a GOP surrender. The Republicans violated their core principle of not raising taxes — especially during a sluggish economic recovery. Moreover, the deal does nothing to promote deficit reduction. In fact, it increases spending by more than $30 billion, with much of the money going to extend long-term unemployment benefits. Hence, the GOP caved on taxes while getting no real spending cuts. The result is that the legislation will add another $4 trillion to our ballooning national debt.
For Republicans, the deal is both bad policy and bad politics. The Obama tax increases will cripple growth, undermine business investment and probably push the sputtering economy into a double-dip recession. This will lead to higher unemployment, economic sclerosis and even bigger deficits. Yet Mr. Obama and the Democrats will not own the disastrous economic downturn. Republicans will be blamed as well. Their fingerprints are all over the legislation. Rather than running against the Obama recession and thereby setting up a potential huge victory in 2014, the GOP has lost its credibility as a low-tax, small-government party. No wonder Tea Party Republicans are enraged. Mr. Obama outmaneuvered both Mr. Boehner and Mr. McConnell. Neither GOP leader deserves to retain his post.
The huge tax increase marks a watershed moment for the Obama presidency. The president has achieved what he’s always wanted: the higher revenue stream needed to fund his European-style entitlement state. In fact, he vows that more tax hikes are coming. The reason is simple: European-level spending requires European-level taxes. Mr. Obama’s welfare liberalism cannot be sustained without confiscatory taxation.
Mr. Boehner deluded himself into believing he could craft a “grand bargain” with the president. The House speaker has fundamentally misjudged Mr. Obama. Mr. Boehner falsely thinks the president is a traditional Democrat. He isn’t. Mr. Obama is a radical progressive who seeks to transform America into a secular social democracy. He is not interested in slashing spending, balancing the budget or reforming government. Instead, Mr. Obama wants only one thing: to expand the federal Leviathan. According to his leftist view, soaring deficits are necessary to dramatically boost spending and eventually compel higher taxes. Mr. Boehner was wrong to think he could negotiate spending cuts or meaningful deficit reduction with Mr. Obama.
Not every Republican voted for the deal. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Sen. Mike Lee of Utah and Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida voted against it. One Tea Party Republican stood out in opposition to the bill: Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul. He vocally predicted the deal would add trillions to the debt, soak the rich and entrench Mr. Obama’s class-warfare policies. Furthermore, Mr. Paul warned Republicans that breaking their pledge to not raise taxes would alienate the GOP’s conservative base. He is right.
Both Mr. Paul and Mr. Rubio are positioned to lead the Tea Party resurgence. Mr. Rubio has consolidated his status as the Republican front-runner for the 2016 presidential nomination. Mr. Paul is emerging as the voice of the conservative opposition in Congress. He is the modern equivalent of Sen. Robert A. Taft, the principled Ohio Republican who waged a frontal assault on the New Deal. Like Taft, Mr. Paul believes in limited government and restoring our constitutional republic. He is the intellectual leader of the GOP.
The Republican Party is in tatters. It has been crushed by Mr. Obama’s ruthless political machine. It is up to the Tea Party to pick up the pieces. Otherwise, nothing else stands in the way of Mr. Obama.

A key reason for Mr. Obama’s success is his cult of personality. He is deified by large segments of the liberal establishment. Hollywood practically worships him. For example, actor Jamie Foxx recently referred to the president as “our Lord and Savior.” University faculties support him. Public unions rally to him. Environmentalists praise him. The homosexual and feminist lobbies adore him. Liberals in the media champion him. In fact, under his administration there has grown an incestuous government-media complex. Major outlets — the New York Times, The Washington Post, USA Today, The Associated Press, Reuters, NPR, CNN and MSNBC — act as little more than mouthpieces for the administration. Several weeks ago, MSNBC hosts including Rachel Maddow, Ed Schultz and Lawrence O’Donnell visited Mr. Obama. Their goal: to perfectly toe the administration’s line on budget negotiations with Republicans. The free press is fading and being replaced by sycophants and palace courtiers, cravenly serving the Democrats in power.
For decades, the secular left’s aim has been to transform America into a European-style social democracy. Yet the more we become like Europe, the less American we become. Now we’re a centralized, big-government mutant our Founding Fathers would find not only unrecognizable but repulsive. Our unique national identity is dissolving. American exceptionalism is in danger of becoming a thing of the past. Just like Europe, we can no longer pay our bills, generate economic dynamism or, eventually, even maintain our military might. An expensive entitlement state is incompatible with superpower status, and eventually, defense budgets must be scaled back to make way for free contraceptives and nationalized health care. One cannot have both butter and guns. Ask the Germans, the British, the French or the Japanese. Their days in the sun are over.
The real meaning of the Obama presidency is the end of America’s greatness. The sad fact is the American people chose this path.
This year has been a turning point in American history. Our constitutional republic is dying. President Obama’s re-election was more than a victory for liberalism. It represented America’s collective suicide — a national push into a fiscal, cultural and moral abyss. We are sliding toward Greece.
Mr. Obama won despite chronic high unemployment, rising inflation and skyrocketing deficits. Our national debt stands at more than $16 trillion. We are the most indebted nation in history. It is almost impossible to dig our way out of this massive financial hole. Even if the president gets everything he wants in tax increases on the wealthy, it will only pay for 11 days of the government’s annual spending. It is class warfare masquerading as serious public policy. His soak-the-rich rhetoric is nothing more than smoke and mirrors, casting the illusion that he knows — or even cares — how to solve the debt crisis.
America faces a seminal reality: We are broke, and we are getting broker by the day. This is the real “fiscal cliff” the country is about to jump off, not the artificial one consuming Washington. Instead of confronting our looming insolvency, the electorate voted to take the plunge. It ratified Mr. Obama’s drive to erect the equivalent of a Franco-German welfare state. Consider Obamacare, the massive stimulus, failed green-energy boondoggles, record numbers on food stamps, constant extensions of unemployment benefits, public housing subsidies, unprecedented government spending and free contraception. Voters chose economic security over individual opportunity, handouts instead of self-reliance, statism over capitalism. Rather than rebuking Mr. Obama, they rewarded him.
His plan calls for piling trillions more upon the national debt. By 2016, the United States’ debt ratio will reach that of Greece and other Euro-socialist basket cases. Once international creditors realize this, and they will soon, America’s days as an economic superpower will be over. We will no longer be able to borrow to subsidize our deficit spending — or at least not without being charged much higher interest rates. America’s budget will be devoured by servicing the debt. This will squeeze funding for government programs and social services. Crushing taxes will have to be imposed. Low growth will become permanent. The American dream will fade away. We are doing to ourselves what imperial Britain, the Axis powers and Soviet Russia were unable to do to us: destroy our unique system of limited government and personal liberty.

Armed citizens a bulwark against state power.
Liberals have declared war on gun rights. Following the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., gun-control zealots have seized on the murder of 20 children and 6 adults to push their longtime goal of rolling back the Second Amendment. The bodies of the victims were not even cold before the progressive blogosphere was blaming the National Rifle Association for the atrocity.
President Obama is calling for sweeping new gun restrictions, including restoring the assault-weapons ban and limiting ammunition in magazines. MSNBC host Ed Schultz seeks the outright “confiscation of guns.” CNN’s Piers Morgan wants America to adopt Great Britain’s rigid gun laws. Ultimately, the left’s argument boils down to one seminal belief: The primary cause for our epidemic of mass shootings lies in technology — the wide availability of firearms. Restrict access to guns, liberals claim, and violence will be curbed significantly.
This is not only false, but blatant propaganda. The Sandy Hook shooter, Adam Lanza, was severely mentally ill. His mother, Nancy Lanza, who also was butchered by her son, proved unable to find appropriate treatment. Instead, according to press accounts, she kept him isolated in a windowless basement for long hours each day, where he played violent video games. No one is willing to confront this painful truth: Our culture’s obsession with video games, especially those that glorify mass killing, senseless brutality and bloodlust, is desensitizing our youth.
Adam Lanza was a deranged individual who spent countless hours in a virtual reality slaughtering imaginary human beings. He also lacked necessary medical treatment — including medication. His life was a combustible mix, ready to blow at any moment. The results were predictable and ominous: Someone was going to get hurt. The only question was who — and how many.
The massacres at Columbine High School in Colorado; Virginia Tech; Tucson, Ariz.; Aurora, Colo.; and Sandy Hook all had one thing in common: The perpetrators suffered from serious mental illness. The recent rash of mass shootings has nothing to do with guns. Rather, it is our society’s refusal to involuntarily institutionalize the violently mentally ill. Since the 1970s, liberals — in the name of “civil rights” — have succeeded in opening up the doors of psychiatric hospitals and releasing psychologically disturbed patients. This has allowed mentally unstable individuals to roam our streets. The consequences have been disastrous — soaring homelessness, rampant poverty, rising crime and an explosion in random murderous atrocities.
The schools, malls and movie theaters where these crimes took place had something else in common: They were gun-free zones. If banning firearms was the solution, those places should have been safe havens. They weren’t. The reason is obvious. Gun-free zones prevent law-abiding citizens from being able to protect themselves, leaving them defenseless against ruthless gunmen. The principal and teachers at Sandy Hookstood helpless as Lanza shot them in cold blood. They were like sheep led to the slaughter.
Norway has some of the strictest gun laws in the world. That did not stop a madman in 2011 from massacring nearly 80 people — many of them children — at a summer camp outside Oslo. To think gun control can prevent mass violence is a leftist utopian fantasy. Timothy McVeigh killed 168 people in Oklahoma City in 1995 using a fertilizer-based truck bomb. The worst school atrocity occurred in Michigan in 1927 when 38 children, ages 7 to 11, along with seven adults were murdered. The weapons that were used: three primitive homemade explosives. Evil is a fundamental reality of life. It cannot be legislated away. It must be faced down and defeated.
This is why the only policy answer to the wave of mass shootings is not fewer guns, but more guns. In particular, gun-free zones should be dismantled at schools. It’s time that education budgets incorporate the hiring of security personnel — say, two guards per school — who would be armed and trained to use deadly force against any future potential shooter. Ideally, they would be ex-military, who possess experience in dealing with surprise attacks and volatile situations. Just the fact that schools would be known to have armed agents protecting students and staff would significantly deter gun violence.
Yet the Democratic left is determined to repeal the Second Amendment. Why? The answer is simple: An armed citizenry is pivotal to a self-governing republic. Our founders enshrined gun rights not because they were bloodthirsty hicks who celebrated a culture of dueling, revenge and honor. Instead, they understood that pervasive gun ownership is a bulwark against excessive state coercive power. A self-reliant people — as opposed to one subservient to rulers — must be capable of defending themselves and their families from dangerous predators. Gun rights are essential to our system of limited government and individual liberty.
For liberals, this is precisely the problem with the Second Amendment. Their aim is to erect a Scandinavian-style social democracy — a North American Sweden. The structure standing in their way is the Constitution. This is why the progressive left has been relentlessly assaulting our Judeo-Christian heritage and constitutional republic. It must vilify — and discredit — our founding principles in order to pave the way for its collectivist revolution. Nothing is more quintessentially American than our gun culture. Secular leftists hate guns because they loathe America. And they will stop at nothing — including exploiting the bodies of dead children — to achieve their radical, anti-American and anti-gun agenda.

‘Fiscal cliff’ ends with Republicans caving on everything.
President Obama’s objective in the “fiscal cliff” battle was make Republicans break their pledge not to raise taxes. The GOP entered the game with the goal of winning real spending cuts and no higher tax rates. They lost on both counts as the lame-duck session of Congress came to a close minutes before the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Day. Over the next 10 years, the deal they approved will hike taxes and spending, adding nearly $4 trillion in red ink. Mr. Obama gloated over his victory just before walking across the South Lawn to return to his vacation in Hawaii. “A central promise of my campaign for president was to change the tax code that was too skewed toward the wealthy at the expense of working middle-class Americans,” he said. “Tonight we’ve done that.”
The measure, which raises taxes on small businesses and individuals who make over $400,000 a year, passed on a bipartisan vote in both chambers. Republicans were split. In all, 151 rank-and-file House Republicans declined to go along with Speaker John A. Boehner in supporting the bill with Majority Leader Eric Cantor and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy among the highest profile “no” votes. In the Senate, Minority LeaderMitch McConnell lost five of his members: Sens. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, Mike Lee of Utah, Rand Paul of Kentucky, Marco Rubio of Florida and Richard Shelby of Alabama. Mr. Paul explained his position before the Senate voted in the wee hours Tuesday morning by saying, “We’re going to raise taxes. We’re going to raise spending. Tell me what’s good about that.”
Spending goes up by $300 billion over 10 years in the final deal, and the $110 billion sequestration is punted for another two months. Congress is once again delaying the spending cuts it had agreed to in August 2011 in exchange for lifting the country’s borrowing limit by more than $2 trillion. As is standard operating procedure in Washington, the borrowing was immediate, while the “cuts” were phased in over 10 years. Predictably, the cuts effectively won’t happen as net spending will surely rise this year.
While Grover Norquist said Republicans didn’t break their pledge not to raise taxes, he’s offering an escape based on a technicality. Republican leaders strategically scheduled votes in both chambers after going over the cliff at midnight on Dec. 31 so they could say they only voted to cut taxes while the upper levels reverted to the Clinton-era rates. Lawmakers who signed the pledge to their constituents to not raise taxes or cut deductions and credits without lowering rates are not showing much integrity by accepting this excuse.
On a positive note, the GOP did make the tax rates permanent, limiting the Democratic ability to use this tactic again. The death tax threshold stays at $5 million, indexed for inflation, and the alternative minimum tax is fixed for good.
Republican leaders insist their strategy is to leverage this deal to fight for spending restraint when the sequestration returns, the current continuing resolution runs out and the debt ceiling is hit. Mr. Obama pre-empted the GOP Tuesday night by declaring, “We can’t simply cut our way to prosperity.” Actually, we can, but this deal showed Mr. Obama has what it takes to win the endgame. It’s a bad move for the nation’s economic recovery.

It’s been more than a week since police in Washington, D.C., opened an investigation into NBC’s David Gregory’s possession of a “high-capacity magazine” that’s prohibited in the District on on national TV. Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier’s spokesman refused Monday to respond to whether Mr. Gregory had even been interviewed yet. This is a rather curious departure for a city that has been ruthless in enforcing this particular firearms statute against law-abiding citizens who made an honest mistake.
In July, The Washington Times highlighted the plight of former Army Spc. Adam Meckler, who was arrested and jailed for having a few long-forgotten rounds of ordinary ammunition — but no gun — in his backpack in Washington. Mr. Meckler, a veteran of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, says he had no idea it was illegal to possess unregistered ammunition in the city. He violated the same section of D.C. law as Mr. Gregoryallegedly did, and both offenses carry the same maximum penalty of a $1,000 fine and a year in jail.
Mr. Meckler was charged with the crime and was forced to accept a plea deal to avoid the cost and time of a protracted legal fight. The indefensible nature of Mr. Meckler’s case led directly to a new law passed by the D.C. Council in December that allows prosecutors to file civil instead of criminal charges, but only if the accused was unaware of the city’s laws.
That exemption probably wouldn’t apply to Mr. Gregory, who held up a 30-round rifle magazine on his show on Dec. 23 to make his point about the need to ban them. NBC asked the police in advance for permission to bring the contraband into Washington for the interview with National Rifle Association’s Wayne LaPierre, but it was not granted.
“I unknowingly broke the law,” Mr. Meckler told The Washington Times. “Mr. Gregory knowingly broke the law. While both are seemingly harmless, both acts were deemed illegal under the District’s obscure firearms laws.” Mr. Meckler said he would never have intentionally left the rounds in his bag.
The former Army medic is still upset about being left with a criminal record and being enrolled on the police list of firearms-related criminals. “I think if you had to measure the criminality of the two instances, his should be interpreted as more severe. At the very least, he should be put on probation, pay a fine and be added to the District’s Gun Offender Registry, as I was ordered to do,” Mr. Meckler said.
The administration wasn’t concerned that it had invited a potential gun criminal to the White House Saturday for an exclusive interview with President Obama. The president used this platform to call for enactment of a new ban within a year on what he called “assault rifles” and “high-capacity clips.”
The District came up with its overly restrictive laws in response to the Supreme Court overturning the capital city’s 30-year gun ban. The statutes shouldn’t apply just to regular people but to the rich and powerful as well. The District should either repeal its over-the-top restrictions or send a squad car to take David Gregory into custody.

A blogger who retaliated against a New York newspaper that came under fire for identifying people with gun licenses in its circulation area explained on Thursday why he published the names and home addresses of the paper’s employees.
“Well, I just thought they were being hypocrites,” said Christopher Fountain on CNN’s “Early Start.” “In the aftermath of Newtown, it was obviously one tragedy, but somehow they were conflating legal gun owners with some crazed tormented devil up in Newtown and putting the two together. And I was offended by that and I wondered how they would like it if their addresses were published.”
Fountain’s blog on Wednesday linked to a map that identified — with pictures — employees of the suburban New York newspaper, the Journal News, as well as their places of residence. That move came several days after the Journal News published interactive maps of Westchester and Rockland counties, which named people with gun licenses and included their addresses — igniting outrage from the right and from some readers.
“We knew publication of the database [as well as the accompanying article providing context] would be controversial, but we felt sharing information about gun permits in our area was important in the aftermath of the Newtown shootings,” Janet Hasson, president and publisher of the Journal News Media Group, told POLITICO Wednesday in a statement.
In an accompanying piece, the paper had said that some citizens “would like lawmakers to expand the amount of information the public can find out about gun owners” after the Newtown massacre.
Fountain swung back at that response.
“Well, she could have just published the number of gun permits, which is actually quite small, if she wanted to show an issue that there are 2,000 legally registered guns in her county, fine,” he said. “But the fact that they put the addresses — I’ve received e-mails from abused women who were under protective order and in hiding and they’re terribly afraid that now their names and addresses are all over the Internet and accessible through that map.”
He added that he was giving the paper a taste of its own medicine.
“The media has been exposing, harassing personal details of people for a long time,” Fountain said. “I don’t believe I’m escalating, I believe I’m punching back.
“My original point in posting this was to just show those particular reporters and the publisher what it feels like,” he continued.
The map that was eventually posted offered a much more extensive list of Journal News employees.

David Gregory Mocks NRA Leader for Proposing Armed Guards in Schools But Sends His Kids to a School with 11 Armed Guards
In the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre, Rep. Louie Gohmerttold Fox News’ Chris Wallace that he wished the principal had a gun to prevent the carnage from taking place. NRA leader Wayne LaPierre agreed with the idea of having armed guards in our schools, saying that, “It’s the one thing we can do immediately that can make our children more safe.” NBC’s David Gregory mocked LaPierre’s proposal, however, which brings to light (yet again) the blatant hypocrisy of some of the most vocal proponents of gun control.
But when it comes to Gregory’s own kids, however, they are secured every school day by armed guards.
The Gregory children go to school with the children of President Barack Obama, according to the Washington Post. That school is the co-ed Quaker school Sidwell Friends.
According to a scan of the school’s online faculty-staff directory, Sidwell has a security department made up of at least 11 people. Many of those are police officers, who are presumably armed.
Moreover, with the Obama kids in attendance, there is a secret service presence at the institution, as well.
It’s safe to say the school where Gregory sends his kids is a high-security school.
It’s just odd he’d want it for his kids, but wouldn’t be more open to it for others.

(CNSNews.com) – The Social Security program ran a $47.8 billion deficit in fiscal 2012 as the program brought in $725.429 billion in cash and paid $773.247 for benefits and overhead expenses, according toofficial data published by Social Security Administration.
The Social Security Administration also released new data revealing that the number of workers collecting disability benefits hit a record 8,827,795 in December–up from 8,805,353 in November.
The overall number of Social Security program beneficiaries—including retired workers, dependent family members and survivors and disabled workers and their dependent family members—also hit a record in December, climbing from 56,658,978 in November to 56,758,185 in December.
In 2011, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there was an average of 112.556 million full-time workers in the United States, of whom 17.806 million worked full-time for local, state or federal government. That left an average of only 94.750 million full-time private sector workers in the country.
That means that for every 1.67 Americans who worked full-time in the private sector in 2011, there is now 1 person collecting benefits from the Social Security administration.

It’s good to have hope, but if we’re going to be realistic, there’s little chance for Middle East emergence of what we in the West call democracy.
Almost a year ago, both Egyptians and Westerners welcomed and celebrated the downfall of three decades of Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak’s tyrannical rule. It was called an “Arab Spring.” A year later, Egyptians are once again taking to the streets, this time protesting the tyrannical acts of President Mohamed Morsi, who represents the vision and ideological orientation of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood’s goal has always been to impose Shariah law. Egyptian tyranny hasn’t been eliminated; its form has changed.
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s dictatorship is now being challenged by a hodgepodge of armed resistance groups nominally united as the Free Syrian Army. Speaking for our nation, last year President Obama said, “The United States has been inspired by the Syrian peoples’ pursuit of a peaceful transition to democracy. They have braved ferocious brutality at the hands of their government.” Is al-Assad’s downfall in any way more likely to produce democracy than Gadhafi’s downfall or Mubarak’s downfall? Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is optimistic in saying the rebel protest shows “the strong desire of the Syrian people … for a Syria that is democratic, just and inclusive.”
The human experience should have taught us that just getting rid of a particular dictatorship is only half the struggle. We must always ask what’s going to replace it. The 1917 Russian revolution got rid of the Czars only to be replaced by the far greater brutality of the Bolsheviks under Joseph Stalin and his successors. In China, Chiang Kai-shek’s dictatorial rule was replaced by Mao Tse-tung’s unprecedented barbarity, which became responsible for the deaths of 76 million Chinese. Cuba’s Fulgencio Batista’s dictatorship was replaced with that of Fidel Castro. The injustices of Western colonialism in Africa were replaced with homegrown brutal dictators who murdered their citizens.
In most countries in the Middle East, the collection of human rights that Westerners know as personal liberty is nonexistent. According to Freedom House’s 2011 “Freedom in the World” survey, as well as Amnesty International’s annual report for 2011, most North African and Middle Eastern countries are ranked either “repressive” or “not free.” Moreover, I believe there’s little prospect for liberty and whatever the West tries to promote in terms of liberty is doomed to failure and disappointment. The fact of the matter is that nations in the Middle East do not share the cultural and philosophical foundations of the West that created its respect for the rule of law and private property rights.
What should the West do about the gross violations of human rights so prevalent in North Africa, the Middle East and elsewhere? My short answer is: mind our own business and only intervene when there are direct threats to our national defense or economic interests. Otherwise, what they want to do to one another is none of our business.

Some interesting news has broken in the wake of the latest push for gun control by President Obama and Senate Democrats: Obama sends his kids to a school where armed guards are used as a matter of fact.
The school, Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC, has 11 security officers and is seeking to hire a new police officer as we speak.
If you dismiss this by saying, “Of course they have armed guards — they get Secret Service protection,” then you’ve missed the larger point.
The larger point is that this is standard operating procedure for the school, period. And this is the reason people like NBC’s David Gregory send their kids to Sidwell, they know their kids will be protected from the carnage that befell kids at a school where armed guards weren’t used (and weren’t even allowed).
Shame on President Obama for seeking more gun control and for trying to prevent the parents of other school children from doing what he has clearly done for his own. His children sit under the protection guns afford, while the children of regular Americans are sacrificed.

—California Highway Patrol division chief Jeff Talbott retired last year as the best-paid officer in the 12 most-populous U.S. states, collecting $483,581 in salary, pension and other compensation.
Talbott, 53, received $280,259 for accrued leave and vacation time and took a new job running the public-safety department at a private university in Southern California. He also began collecting an annual pension of $174,888 from the state.
Union-negotiated benefits, coupled with overtime that can exceed regular pay and lax enforcement of limits on accumulating unused vacation, allow some troopers to double their annual earnings and retire as young as age 50. The payments they get are unmatched by those elsewhere, according to data compiled by Bloomberg on 1.4 million employees of the 12 states. Some, like Talbott, go on to second careers.

The founder of Domino’s Pizza is suing the federal government over mandatory contraception coverage in the new health care law. Tom Monaghan, a devout Roman Catholic, says contraception is not health care and instead is a “gravely immoral” practice. He’s a plaintiff in a lawsuit filed Friday in federal court, along with his Domino’s Farms, which runs an office park near Ann Arbor.
Monaghan offers health insurance that excludes contraception and abortion for employees. The new law requires employers to offer insurance that includes contraception coverage or risk fines. Monaghan says the law violates his constitutional rights, and he’s asking a judge to strike down the mandate.
The government says the contraception mandate benefits women and their role in society. There are similar lawsuits pending across the country.

—Bakersfield, Calif. – Homeless and low-income people in California may soon be getting free cell phones and service thanks to a federally funded program.
The cell phones would be handed out through the Lifeline program.
The California Public Utilities Commission has been reviewing the Lifeline proposal from Assurance Wireless for three years and is expected approve it in the coming weeks.
The goal of the program is to keep the poor and homeless in touch with family, potential employers and others crucial to improving their lives.
“Telephone communications are a necessity in this day and age especially with the unemployment rate so high, people need a way to reach out to potential employers and get a call back from potential employers,” said Assurance Wireless spokesman Jack Pflanz.
In other states, the program is paid for by contributions from cell phone carriers, like Sprint or AT&T.
They can recoup those costs by charging subscribers a surcharge fee.
It’s unknown if that will the case in California.

I, like many Americans was deeply saddened by the reelection of Obama
on Tuesday; was quick to be ashamed of America and the people who voted for
him and also questioned why God would allow this to happen. Today I started
to reflect upon what happened and why. Then it hit me that I wasn’t trusting
God and He is still in control!Perhaps God in his wisdom knew that Romney was not the right choice for us
at this time. Perhaps God in his wisdom knew that whomever got elected was
going to face huge problems and why shouldn’t Obama be the one to shoulder
that responsibility. After all he is the one who has misled, lied to the
American people, and has further plans for the destruction of our Country as
we have known and loved it. He now has to “inherit” his own mess and can’t
blame it on someone else. The media would have crucified Romney over the
next four years for “ruining” Obama’s hope and change plans and blamed him
for all the problems. I believe that our God will show this nation what
happens when you allow Godless people to manage the gifts this nation has to
offer and He provided for us. I believe He will expose Obama once and for
all for the failure he is and our corrupt media will not be able to save
him. I also believe that Obama’s attitude and treatment of Israel is not
looked upon by God as obeying his command and Obama will have to answer for
that. We have another Congressional election coming up in two years and
maybe we can get rid of some of the democratic critters that occupy Congress
today.Maybe in four years we can run a ticket for President and Vice President
like Paul Ryan and Marco Rubio. Maybe when America again suffers serious
setbacks, people will realize what a weak and corrupt management team we
have and be tired of it. I will not question God’s wisdom or plans He has
for us again, because He is in control and has always done what’s best for
us. We are reminded that prayer isn’t always answered in the way we would
like at the time, but God does answer our prayers in His time and in a way
that is best for His children. So, let’s keep the Faith, lay our worries at

Being Rich is baaaaaad 😦Before Democrats start to re-write history and play the race card for their own personal political gain, let’s just be clear: It was the left — not the right — that took Susan Rice out.
Certainly, Republicans like John McCain and Susan Collins had issues with Rice, and made that clear (although McCain also “softened” his opposition). But is there any thinking person out there who believes the Obama administration would have accepted her withdrawal if opposition to her could have been portrayed as some kind of right wing “dog whistle”? Please.
What ultimately did Rice in was criticism from the likes of Maureen Dowd (twice — here and here) and Dana Milbank and Lloyd Grove and in the Atlantic magazine(bothhere and here) and in Foreign Policy even in a piece on the hallowed (to liberals) op/ed page of the New York Times. Hillary Clinton let her opposition to Rice be known. Those are the kind of opponents that a Democrat nominee simply cannot overcome — not a couple of Republican senators when the administation’s customary M.O. is simply to attribute everything to race and gender.
Note also that the Republican opposition was based specifically on Rice’s misleading statements in the wake of Benghazi. It was her critics on the left, in contrast, who highlighted gauzier, more personal issues, characterizing Rice as someone afflicted with a supposed “personality disorder” (Grove), who is “ill-equipped to be the nation’s top diplomat” because of her “shoot-first tendency” and “pugilism” (Milbank), with a “bull-in-the-china-shop reputation” (Dowd).
The effort to pin the race/gender card on the GOP had already begun, with Ben Smith writing about why the Repubilican “war”on Susan Rice held political risk, and after her withdrawal, the predictable Andrea Mitchell (below) pulling out the stops.
So again, before Obama sycophants try to turn Rice withdrawal lemons into racist-sexist-GOP lemonade, let’s be clear for the record: It wasn’t the Republicans who forced Rice to back out.
It’s not like we have a whole bunch of options other than the Post Office or UPS. Both support gays so I’d like to boycott them both. What are we supposed to do, not send or receive packages because the carriers support immoral behavior? Someone throw out some options!
While subsidies in the law will shield some people, other consumers who make too much for assistance are in for “premium rate shock,” Mark Bertolini, who runs the third-biggest U.S. health-insurance company, told analysts today at a conference in New York. The prospect has spurred discussion of having Congress delay or phase in parts of the law, he said.
“We’ve shared it all with the people in Washington and I think it’s a big concern,” the CEO said. “We’re going to see some markets go up as much as as 100 percent.”
Bertolini’s prediction is at odds with Congressional Budget Office estimates that the law will have little effect on small and large-employer plans and the Obama administration’s projections that middle-class families will actually save money. The 2010 law is expected to extend health care to about 30 million people who otherwise couldn’t get insurance, paid for by new taxes and fees on companies and wealthier individuals.
Those taxes will make coverage more expensive for insurers, as will other provisions such as a ban on discriminating against people with pre-existing medical conditions, Bertolini said. Premiums are likely to increase 25 percent to 50 percent on average in the small-group and individual markets, he said, citing projections by his Hartford, Connecticut-based company.
The one-time jump in rates also includes increases in costs that would come even without the law, Bertolini said.
“That just seems silly,” said Gary Claxton, a vice president at Kaiser Family Foundation, a Menlo Park, California- based nonprofit that studies health issues. “I can’t imagine anything going on in the small-group market that would change the average premium that much. On the individual market, there’s arguments for things changing, but those magnitudes seem high.”The Obama administration said last year that “middle-class families” buying insurance through the law’s new online exchanges may save as much as $2,300 a year starting in 2014. Nick Papas, a White House spokesman, declined to comment on Bertolini’s predictions.
The CBO estimated in 2009 that the law will increase premiums 10 percent to 13 percent for individuals and have little effect on small and large-employer plans. After the subsidies are factored in, individual bills will go down by about 60 percent, the agency predicted.
About 43 percent of people who buy on the exchanges, or individual markets outside of them, won’t be eligible for subsidies, according to the report. Muslim suicide bombers in Britain are set to begin a three-day strike on Monday in a dispute over the number of virgins they are entitled to in the afterlife. Emergency talks with Al Qaeda have so far failed to produce an agreement.
The unrest began last Tuesday when Al Qaeda announced that the number of virgins a suicide bomber would receive after his death would be cut by 25% in December from 72 to 54. A spokesman said increases in recent years in the number of suicide bombings has resulted in a shortage of virgins in the afterlife.
The suicide bombers’ union, the British Organization of Occupational Martyrs (or B.O.O.M.) responded with a statement saying the move was unacceptable to its members and called for a strike vote. General Secretary Abdullah Amir told the press, “Our members are literally working themselves to death in the cause of Jihad. We don’t ask for much in return but to be treated like this is like a kick in the teeth”.
Speaking from his shed in Tipton in the West Midlands, Al Qaeda chief executive Haisheet Mapants explained, “I sympathize with our workers concerns but Al Qaeda is simply not in a position to meet their demands. Speech adds to history of giving government credit over entrepreneurs

On Monday, President Barack Obama went to acampaign-style rally in Michigan and attempted to put pressure on Congressional Republicans to raise taxes on those making more than $250,000 and railed against Michigan’s recently-passed right-to-work legislation.
Obama, instead of negotiating with Congressional Republicans on a budget deal, called the bill that Michigan Governor Rick Snyder (R) may sign into law this week the beginning of a “race to the bottom.”
“If Congress doesn’t act soon, everyone’s going to see their income taxes go up,” Obama said. ““We can solve this problem — all Congress needs to do is prevent a tax hike on the first $250,000 of everybody’s income.”
Obama has insisted he will not sign a budget deal that does not raise taxes on those making more than $250,000. The president has indicated that he may even veto his own plans for tax increases if Congress does not give him unilateral power to raise the debt ceiling without Congressional approval.
Last week, Michigan’s House passed a right-to-work law. Michigan’s Senate had passed its own version earlier, and lawmakers will reconcile the pieces of legislation this week.
Obama said those laws will give Michigan workers “the right to work for less money” and said Michigan legislators should not be trying to “take away your rights to bargain for better wages or working conditions.”
Going back to the fiscal cliff negotiations, Obama said “98% of Americans will not see income taxes go up a single dime” and insisted he would “work with Republicans on a plan for economic growth.” Republicans have accused Obama of being “distant” in negotiations, accusing the president of wanting to see the country go over the so-called fiscal cliff for political gain.
Even though Obama and Democrats have not put forth serious proposals to structurally reform entitlements or reduce spending, Obama said he wanted to negotiate in a “balanced” and “responsible” manner.
Obama’s initial offer to avert the fiscal cliff included $1.6 trillion in tax increases, a new round of stimulus projects, and unprecedented powers for him to unilaterally raise the debt ceiling without Congressional approval.
Republicans rejected the plan, but Obama couldn’t even get the support of his own party for his initial offer.
