Since we’ve all been gnashing our teeth speculatin’ about what’s been going on behind the curtain of Romney’s vice-presidential vetting process for months, here’s a fun look into how things went down during the eventual selection of Paul Ryan, via NBC. Just ’cause, heck, everybody likes a little political intrigue now and then (when it’s the the good kind of intrigue and not, oh, I don’t know — say, political donors being granted inside access to the White House to rent-seek on behalf of their green-energy schemes. Just as a random example. Cough.):
Myers told reporters she established a system, approved by Romney, to quietly vet candidates after asking if they were interested in the job. A team of lawyers worked with Myers in a secure room of the campaign’s Boston headquarters. No copies were made of any documents, and everything was locked in a safe when the team left at night. No documents were allowed out of the room. …
By August, reporters had begun to whittle down the short list of possible candidates and to keep a close eye on the top contenders. Despite this, on Aug. 5, Ryan quietly slipped out of his home and, dressed casually and wearing a hat and sunglasses to obscure his appearance, drove to Chicago, where he boarded a flight to Hartford, Conn. …
Keeping the Romney/Ryan pairing a secret for the next week proved to be an Olympian challenge. A boomlet of support for the Ryan candidacy drew increased scrutiny, and reporters such as NBC’s Alex Moe were staking out Ryan’s home, chatting with the candidate and his family and keeping tabs on their movement, lest they slip away again undetected. …
Ryan returned home in the early afternoon and went inside through the back as he was locked out of his side door, telling reporters who stood watching on the sidewalk he must have forgotten his keys. That would be the last time anyone saw the congressman in Janesville, because sometime after 3 p.m., he exited his home into the back yard (where reporters couldn’t see) and went into the woods. …
Waiting a couple of hundred yards on the other side: Speth, who took Ryan and his family to an airport in neighboring Illinois, where a private plane would whisk them to Virginia.
And so on and so forth. I must confess, I kind of get a kick out of the fact that thwarting the full and formidable force of the American political media can still rely on something so simple and old-school as sneaking off through the woods.

So, once again, we can look forward to softball questions lobbed toward President Obama, and “Have you stopped beating your wife yet?” -like questions fired at Governor Romney. All across the nation, conservatives today are asking themselves this question: Does the G.O.P. have a death wish, or is the Republican establishment run by progressive moles? Put that aside, and let’s examine this development, hardly new, from a different perspective; not one with a Pollyannaish slant. Let’s see it as an opportunity. (I know, that’s what General Custer may have said.) We know that, in most if not all of the debates, the spin will be in. So why not take former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich’s response to spun questions from the liberal media in the G.O.P primary debates as the model. He did not accept the premises of bent questions. Romney should not only not accept those premises, but he should debunk them right up front. Without putting on his characteristic smile, cause this stuff isn’t funny. He should call-out the bias of the moderators — who are definitely not moderate — and reframe their questions when they’re obviously slanted. What, do that and anger the moderators, thereby making them more bias? The premise of that response is that they’re cable of being more bias. They are not. They’ve topped out. Gingrich received standing ovations from live crowds when he stood up to the spin. Romney will receive standing ovations — not from the split-allegiance or loaded audiences on-site at the debates, but from conservations watching their T.V.’s at home. If Romney wants to fire up the base, he’ll need to fire up his response to the inevitable biased questions, especially from Schieffer and Crowley. He should take the initiative and note how the moderate just lobbed an underhanded softball to the President, and ask why the President was not queried about…whatever issue was deftly dodged. That’s the opportunity. The threat is obvious — a base dispirited by another round of simpatico, puffquestions to Obama posed by faux journalists, shilling for the D.N.C. Betsy M. Galliher adds:In what can only be called the day’s most predictable news, the line-up of moderators for October’s three Presidential debates, and one Vice-Presidential debate, have been released. The names will come as no shock to conservatives: PBS’s Jim Lehrer; CNN’s Candy “some sort of ticket death wish” Crowley; CBS’s Bob Schieffer; and ABC’s Martha Raddatz. Apparently, Matt Drudge, Dennis Miller, Iowahawk, and Mark Steyn were not on the short list. Go figure. The smartest guy in the room is not the one to whom the moderator is beholden, and Romney and Ryan are more than capable of using that to their advantage. Let them have at, please. Even Romney has proven he can stick it to old media. Think a snide Brian Williams asking Romney if he was going to “pick a boring white guy” as his running mate, and Romney’s quick quip, “you weren’t available, Brian.” We finally have a ticket smart enough to put old media in its rightful place by pointing out and turning around leading, biased questions, blatant lies, nuanced narratives, and forcing Obama to defend his abysmal record. It will be, as Limbaugh might say, a teachable moment. For all we’ve endured the last four years, it will be welcome comic relief watching two smart men make example of a media that deserves to sink on the ship of its own biased ineptitude. During her 2002 gubernatorial campaign, Napolitano publicly denied rumors that she’s a lesbian. In a 2009 interview, she said, “I just happen not to be married.”
When asked at that time if she was “seeing anybody now,” she answered, “Yes, my staff.”
Hayes’ suit says that when it became clear he was going to be removed from his post, he “felt that he was being targeted because of his gender.”
He charges that in April and May 2009, ICE chief of staff Barr “removed the entire contents of the offices of three male employees, including nameplates, computers and telephones, to the men’s bathroom at ICE headquarters.”
“Barr also created a frat-house type atmosphere that is targeted to humiliate and intimidate male employees,” court papers say.
In addition to the alleged hotel phone call, Barr allegedly “covertly took an ICE BlackBerry device assigned to a male special agent in charge and sent a BlackBerry Messenger message to his female supervisor indicating that the male employee had a crush on the female supervisor and fantasized about her.”
“Further, Barr promoted and otherwise rewarded those male employees who play along with her sexually charged games,” the suit says.
Napolitano hasn’t formally respoded to Hayes’ suit, which was filed in May.

The “Obama backdrop” we can call it now. The fawning, nearly fainting, adoring sycophants with the cups of kool aid. Here, before the throngs of the unquestioning, Obama suggests Michelle’s ‘woman’s’ healthcare choices are at risk. One might ask What exactly are Michelle’s woman’s healthcare choices, and who in the world is threatening to interfere with her choices, or the choices of any other woman? What is up for question is Who Pays?
That is an entirely other matter, and the matter at hand. The suggestion that individual liberties are being threatened by the GOP and protected by the Democratic Party is absurd. The suggestion that if the Government doesn’t pay, the choice is therefore taken away, defies common sense. Where is the scrutiny?
Doesn’t the Obama family have the very best healthcare, in the world, for life? Who’re you kidding? ( I think I see their faces behind you.) You are worried about Michelle’s healthcare choices? Really? What choices will common Americans have, those people outside the safety net of Presidential and Congressional healthcare plans, when Obamacare is in full blown effect? Fewer choices, that is a certainty. Can we talk about those for a while?
Mr. Obama laments that Michelle is not paid. Alas. No first lady ever has been paid.
Perhaps the trappings of being first lady are compensation enough. The massive staff, the vacations, entourages, separate flights, wardrobe allowances that bring $6000 jackets. Being waited on hand and foot seems to be handsome compensation for being the President’s wife.
Or maybe, as some suggest, Michelle is actually making some tough national decisions with Valerie Jarret behind closed doors. Is she helping run the country? If so, I suggest, Mr. President, that you pro rate your salary and share your compensation.
And here come all the other tricks. The fainting at the rally, “Stand back, anybody have a water bottle?” The straw men, set up and then destroyed by his” brilliance and fairness”. “They” want dirty air and dirty water, he says. But don’t “they” really want affordable energy and responsible coal use? And “they” want to take healthcare choices out of the hands of women. But don’t “they” really want the costs to be away from the federal government and free from insurance mandates?
There seem to be a new low in the world of Presidential conduct. And the complicit media, that is idle and unquestioning when logic is clearly tortured, is the great enabler. Justice Alito shook his head at the State of the Union speech when Citizens United v. FEC was misrepresented by Mr. Obama. Now head shaking is becoming a national sport.
The evidence connecting the Obama campaign to Priorities USA, a super PAC that launched an appalling and blatantly false attack ad blaming a woman’s death on Mitt Romney, is starting to pile up.
Bill Burton runs Priorities USA and was Obama’s deputy press secretary under Robert Gibbs. You can also add in the fact that the man in the ad telling the undeniably tragic tale of his wife’s passing, Joe Soptic, has also appeared in ads for the Obama campaign. Finally, just yesterday, senior Obama campaign advisor Stephanie Cutter was caught red-handed lying about her knowledge of the ad.
The ad’s overall accusation against Romney is bad enough, but the misleading elements within are so numerous and undeniable that the ad has prompted the kind of media blowback usually reserved for Republicans. But as you might expect, very little of that blowback has been directed at the person the ad is meant to benefit, President Obama.
And you can bet, that’s intentional. As just one example, I give you… Politico.
Up until now, Obama and his staff have adamantly refused to repudiate something this objectively despicable. This, likely, is for two reason. First, the ad is yet another welcome distraction soaking up the news-cycle, which ensures no one is talking about Obama’s failed record and Romney can’t get his message out. Secondly, the media is being careful to make sure Obama pays no political price for benefitting by and refusing to repudiate something so scurrilous.
That, however, might change now. Earlier today, Lanny Davis, a widely respected Democrat and one-time top advisor to President Clinton, blasted the ad and in the strongest possible language demanded Obama repudiate it:
“Bill Burton needs to go back to ethics school,” Davis said of the group’s senior strategist, who is a former Obama White House spokesman. “He knows perfectly well that the ad is misleading and disgusting and he needs to apologize for it.” …
Davis said the president shouldn’t allow his supporters to suggest that Romney is in any way to blame for the woman’s death.
“President Obama owes it to the American people to repudiate this ad,” he said.
Obama campaign officials have refused to disavow the ad, claiming independence from the outside group and no knowledge of the woman’s story. Priorities USA strategists insist the ad is factually correct and will air as scheduled later this week.
This might be the tipping point that finally forces the media to acknowledge the elephant in the room and demand the president start acting like one.
Just don’t hold your breath.

State Department documents released in two separate FOIA requests indicate that Ann Dunham apparently identified her son with an Indonesian surname and asked the State Department to drop him from her U.S. passport.
In a passport amendment she submitted in person to the State Department at the U.S. Embassy in Jakarta, on Aug. 13, 1968, less than a year after joining her second husband in Indonesia, she petitioned to renew her expiring passport.
In the amendment form, she also requested “Barack Obama II (Soebarkah)” be removed from her U.S. Passport No. 777788.
Her listing of her son’s name as “Barack Hussein Obama (Soebarkah)” suggests she intended to indicate he was an Indonesian citizen.
Until the State Department released the document in July 2010, the surname Soebarkah had never surfaced in reference to Barack Hussein Obama Jr. Indonesians do not typically use surnames, as is the custom in Western nations.
Surnames may be used to convey ethnic information and even within families surnames may vary. Soebarkah may be a variation of the Soetoro surname.

President Barack Obama’s Republican critics are celebrating his birthday, tongue-in-cheek style. On the eve of his 51st birthday, the Republican National Committee delivered this cake on Friday to its Democratic counterpart.
“Since President Obama’s birthday is tomorrow, we actually wish him a happy 50.99726 years with this ‘you didn’t bake that’ cake,” said RNC spokesman Tim Miller.

Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., is demanding answers after a report surfaced that a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent is facing punishment for arresting an illegal immigrant.
The unidentified agent could face a three-day suspension after he arrested a 35-year-old illegal immigrant from Mexico who had as many as 10 traffic violations.
The agent was ordered by supervisors to release the individual because he was not a “priority target.” When the officer balked, he was threatened with a three-day suspension and the illegal alien was let go.
“The actions that it appears were taken by your agency send a message to agents in the field that they will be punished for doing their duty and enforcing the law,” Sessions wrote in an letter to ICE Director John Morton.

Wednesday was Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, and Americans flocked to the fast food restaurant in response to criticism of COO Dan Cathy’s opposition to same-sex marriage (as well as threats from the mayors of some major cities). The photos of long lines and traffic jams reveal the extent of the restaurant’s support–for some it’s about traditional values and for others it’s about freedom of religious exercise and speech in the face of government intimidation. There are even rumors that Chick-fil-A set a new world record for sales in a single day, though the company has yet to release any sales numbers.
But you wouldn’t know anything about the national phenomenon by reading the front pages of most of the country’s leading newspapers. There’s no mention of Chick-fil-A on the front pages of the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, and the Boston Globe. The front pages of USA Today, the Dallas Morning News, and the Houston Chronicle have small headlines about the restaurant, while Chick-fil-A’s hometown paper, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, fits in a story below the fold under the heading, “Chick-fil-A Controversy.” And the front pages of major news websites are quiet in their coverage as well.
Inside some of those papers, the coverage is still relatively scant. The L.A. Times has a news story, while the New York Times has an op-ed from the gay dean at the Georgia Tech business school encouraging Americans to let Chick-fil-A “fly free.” The Washington Post ran a photograph, but no story.
The Newseum’s collection of the top ten newspaper covers from around the country seems to recognize the biggest national news story of the day. The papers covering the story aren’t just located in the South, Chick-fil-A’s regional base; smaller papers from Colorado, Ohio, New York, and California were all over the story.

The worse the FICO score, the bigger the increase. From Q4 2010 to Q1 2012, GM Financial loans to customers with the worst FICO scores — below 540 — shot up 79% to more than $2.3 billion. The second worst category, 540-599, rose 28% from about $3.4 billion to $4.3 billion.

In a lively panel Thursday at the American Enterprise Institute, author Robert Zubrin compared Obamacare-related comments by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to Nazi propaganda.
Zubrin slammed Sebelius for promoting mandatory contraception coverage as a cost saving measure.
“In testimony in Congress, Kathleen Sebelius actually said that Obamacare would save money — save the nation a lot of money,” Zubrin said, “because it would distribute contraceptives and thus reduce the number of births.”
“The notion that by preventing children from being born we will save the nation money, this mirrors Nazi propaganda calling for euthanasia of ‘useless eaters’ because it would save us all money, it was an incredible statement,” he continued.
Zubrin, a fellow at the Center for Security Policy and a contributing editor for The New Atlantis, did not hold back in his stinging criticism of the “anti-humanist” movement during the event to discuss his new book “Merchants of Despair.”
“If you view the world’s resources as being limited, then countries which are creative and which accelerate economic growth — they are the criminals whose activities must be constrained,” Zubrin said. “Its like the Lilliputians throwing threads on Gulliver, but if enough of them do it, they can tie him down.”
His comments on the value that life is given echo the sentiments of former Gov. Sarah Palin who, during the passage of Obamacare, raised the specter of government-run “death panels” that would decide which patients would receive care and which would not.
When asked about falling birth rates in Europe, Zubrin said “cultural pessimism” is influencing people not to start families and that its effects could be replicated in the United States.
“In the old days people depended on their own children to support them in their old age. Now, that has been socialized and people are depending on other people’s children to support them in their old age. People said the problem with socialism is what happens when you run out of other people’s money to spend? Well, what happens when you run out of other people’s children to support you?”

The federal government runs 33 different housing programs: 21 programs to provide food, eight healthcare programs, 27 cash or general assistance programs. It’s hard to find a government department that doesn’t run an anti-poverty program. All this adds up — and this is just the federal government.
If you also include state and local spending, the government will spend nearly a trillion dollars this year fighting poverty. That’s almost the size of the national deficit this year.
Now let me be clear, I don’t object to poor people getting help. My problem is a government throwing money at programs that clearly aren’t working. Consider this: All this welfare spending adds up to $20,610 for every poor man, woman and child in the country.
For a poor family of three, that’s nearly $62,000 dollars. The poverty line for that family is just $18,500. With this kind of spending, poverty should be wiped out – instead it’s growing.
Today, one in seven Americans is living in poverty. The most in almost two decades. All the while spending is soaring.
And, welfare spending for the last four decades — adjusted for inflation? Up, up, up. How can we spend all this money, and see so little progress?

A new super PAC that includes retired special operations personnel and other veterans announced plans Wednesday to raise money to run ads in swing states against President Obama.
The group, Special Operations for America, filed paperwork Monday with the Federal Election Commission. It is headed by retired Navy SEAL Commander Ryan Zinke. During his 23-year career, Zinke spent time in the Navy’s elite SEAL Team 6, the same team that killed Osama bin Laden in a commando raid last year.
Zinke said he and other members of the special operations community are outraged that SEAL Team 6 was identified as the commando unit that carried out the raid, saying it put its members and their families at risk. Zinke said he believes the president has politicized his role as commander in chief to win re-election.
“Who was it at risk?” he said. “Was it the president? Or was it the young SEAL with the wife and kid at home? That’s the arrogance.”

Give Barack Obama points for consistency: he has always blamed Bush for the economy, even when it was humming along. In April 2003, Obama, then a state senator, attacked George Bush’s “attack on working families.” He called on Bush to “fix up the economy first” before he did anything else, like tax cuts. (Chinta Strausberg, “Obama to Bush: Fix up U.S. Budget First,” Chicago Defender, April 15, 2003).Obama was particularly incensed by those tax cuts, telling the Chicago Defender, “If you don’t make $300,000 or more, you won’t benefit from this tax break.” He continued: “In the meantime, the tax cuts will create perpetual deficits and further depress an already bad economy. It will also prevent the funding of education programs, the job training programs that could put people back to work.” Given the bad economy in 2003, Obama predicted that Bush would only be re-elected thanks to his “spin-masters, who are very good on focusing the public’s attention on the war in Iraq, and they will do their best to keep the focus away from the economic disaster that is occurring in our communities.” Obama suggested that Democrats make a “clear and convincing case for an alternative economic strategy,” a foreshadowing of how he would be different. In May 2003, he continued his attack on Bush and called on the Senate to “resist” Bush’s “unprecedented $300 billion deficit,” which, he alleged, was retarding growth. Indeed, Establishmentarians not only dismiss any possibility of the official’s guilt or complicity, but they also ferociously denounce those who raise the possibility. Am I describing the case of Huma Abedin, the aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton? No, I am describing the case of Alger Hiss, back in the 1940s. Hiss, who spent a decade working in the State Department, was accused of being a Soviet spy by Whittaker Chambers in 1948. Chambers’ charges were brought before the Congress by a young House freshman, Richard Nixon.
USA: The Next Detroit

One of the most important things to remember about socialism – or coercion of any kind – is it fails eventually because human beings have an innate desire for liberty and a strong need for personal property rights. In fact, the origins of government lie in the need of agricultural communities to protect themselves from violence and theft. So it is particularly ironic that in more recent times, it is government itself that has more frequently played the role of bandit.
When you start taxing people at extreme rates to pay for socialist “benefits,” when you start telling them which schools their children must attend, when you start giving jobs away to people based on race instead of ability… you quash human freedom, which bogs down productivity and if continued for long enough leads to social collapse.
I find it perplexing that only 20 years after the collapse of the Berlin Wall, the West continues to implement laws that mimic all of the failed policies of our former “communist” foes. Our current president won the election by promising to “spread the wealth around.” But… truth be told… we don’t have to look to Eastern Europe or the Soviet Union to find a society destroyed by coercion, socialism, and the overreaching power of the State. We could just look at Detroit…
In 1961, the last Republican mayor of Detroit lost his re-election bid to a young, intelligent Democrat, with the overwhelming support of newly organized black voters. His name was Jerome Cavanagh. The incumbent was widely considered to be corrupt (and later served 10 years in prison for tax evasion). Cavanagh, a white man, pandered to poor underclass black voters.
He marched with Martin Luther King down the streets of Detroit in 1963. (Of course, marching with King was the right thing to do… It’s just Cavanagh’s motives were political not moral.) He instated aggressive affirmative action policies at City Hall. And most critically, he greatly expanded the role of the government in Detroit, taking advantage of President Lyndon Johnson’s “Model Cities Program” – the first great experiment in centralized urban planning.
Mayor Cavanagh was the only elected official to serve on Johnson’s task force. And Detroit received widespread acclaim for its leadership in the program, which attempted to turn a nine-square-mile section of the city (with 134,000 inhabitants) into a “model city.” More than $400 million was spent trying to turn inner cities into shining new monuments to government planning. In short, the feds and Democratic city mayors were soon telling people where to live, what to build, and what businesses to open or close. In return, the people received cash, training, education, and health care.
The Model Cities program was a disaster for Detroit. But it did accomplish its real goal: The creation of a state-supported, Democratic political power base. The program also resulted in much higher taxes – which were easy to pitch to poor voters who didn’t have to pay them. Cavanagh pushed a new income tax through the state legislature and a “commuter tax” on city workers.
Unfortunately, as with all socialist programs, lots of folks simply don’t like being told what to do. Lots of folks don’t like being plundered by the government. They don’t like losing their jobs because of their race.
In Detroit, they didn’t like paying new, large taxes to fund a largely black and Democratic political hegemony. And so in 1966, more than 22,000 middle- and upper-class residents moved out of the city.
But what about the poor? As my friend Doug Casey likes to say, in the War on Poverty, the poor lost the most. In July 1967, police attempted to break up a late-night party in the middle of the new “Model City.” The scene turned into the worst race riot of the 1960s. The violence killed more than 40 people and left more than 5,000 people homeless. One of the first stores to be looted was the black-owned pharmacy.
The largest black-owned clothing store in the city was also burned to the ground. Cavanagh did nothing to stop the riots, fearing a large police presence would make matters worse. Five days later, Johnson sent in two divisions of paratroopers to put down the insurrection. Over the next 18 months, an additional 140,000 upper- and middle-class residents – almost all of them white – left the city.
And so, you might rightfully ask… after five years of centralized planning, higher taxes, and a fleeing population, what did the government decide to do with its grand experiment, its “Model City”? You’ll never guess…
Seeing it had accomplished nothing but failure, the government endeavored to do still more. The Model City program was expanded and enlarged by 1974’s Community Development Block Grant Program. Here again, politicians would decide which groups (and even individuals) would receive state funds for various “renewal” schemes. Later, Big Business was brought into the fold. In exchange for various concessions, the Big Three automakers “gave” $488 million to the city for use in still more redevelopment schemes in the mid-1990s.
What happened? Even with all their power and money, centralized planners couldn’t succeed with any of their plans. Nearly all of the upper and middle classes left Detroit. The poor fled, too. The Model City area lost 63% of its population and 45% of its housing units from the inception of the program through 1990.
Even today, the crisis continues. At a recent auction of nearly 9,000 seized homes and lots, less than one-fifth of the available properties sold, even with bidding starting at $500. You literally can’t give away most of the “Model City” areas today. The properties put up for sale last week represented an area the size of New York’s Central Park. Total vacant land in Detroit now occupies an area the size of Boston. Detroit properties in foreclosure have more than tripled since 2007.
Every single mayor of Detroit since 1961 has been a Democrat. Every single mayor of Detroit since 1974 has been black. Detroit has been a major recipient of every major social program since the early 1960s and has received hundreds of billions of dollars in government grants, loans, and programs. We now have a black, Democrat president, who is promising to do to America as a whole what his political mentors have done to Detroit.
Those of you with a Democratic political affiliation may think what I’ve written above is biased or false. You may think what you like. But there is no way to argue that what the government has done to Detroit is anything but a horrendous crime. You may think what I’ve written above is merely a political analysis. Perhaps so, but politicians drive macroeconomic policy. And macroeconomic policy determines key financial metrics, like the trade-weighted value of a currency and key interest rates.
The likelihood America will become a giant Detroit is growing – rapidly. Politicians now control the banking sector, most of the manufacturing sector (including autos), a large amount of media, and are threatening to take over health care and the production of electricity (via cap and trade rules). These are the biggest threats to wealth in the history of our country. And these threats are causing the world’s most accomplished and wealthy investors to actively short sell the United States – something that is unprecedented in my experience.

On July 9, Representative Michele Bachmann sent letters to the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, Justice and State, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, asking that they investigate the Muslim Brotherhood’s influence on, and deep penetration within, the U.S. government. In her letters she named Huma Abedin, Secretary of State Clinton’s Deputy Chief of Staff, as an individual who has familial ties with the Muslim Brotherhood.
Senator John McCain took umbrage at Bachmann’s mention of Abedin, saying:
“These attacks on Huma [Abedin] have no logic, no basis, and no merit. And they need to stop now.”
in order to dismiss Bachmann’s concerns that easily, we have to ignore three huge problems:
1. Abedin’s mother is not only a member of the Muslim Sisterhood, but also sits on the Guidance Board of that organization. Making her not only a member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s female auxiliary, but also a prestigious member.
2. Another member of the Muslim Sisterhood’s Guidance Bureau is Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi’s wife, which means Abedin’s mother and the wife of an renowned Muslim Brotherhood member are in regular and frequent contact.
3. Lastly, Abedin’s brother, Hassan Abedin, has allegedly collaborated with Omar Naseef and Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, two of the most influential terror supporters in the world.
In light of these things, maybe Bachmann’s concerns have logic, basis, and merit?

“President Obama said this is a day of prayer and reflection—this is not a day for reckless accusation. It is irresponsible for any media outlet to suggest anyone was responsible for this tragedy other than those involved. In an effort to portray the Romneys as out of touch and ding them on Mitt Romney’s refusal to meet MSM/DNC demands, progressives fabricated a “gaffe” and attributed it to Ann Romney.
“They wanted to be offended so badly that they made up a quote and attributed it to Ann Romney.”
The crazy thing is that while Ann Romney never said “you people,” do you know who did? Barack Obama!
“It shouldn’t be a Democrat/Republican issue,” Obama said. “America is not just about you people doing well. America is about everybody doing well.”

As the Obama campaign and the media continue to press Mitt Romney to release more of his tax returns, and to suggest–without a shred of evidence–that he is a “felon,” it is worth noting how much critical information Barack Obama has withheld from view–both as a candidate in 2008, and during his term in office. Here is a Breitbart News top ten list of things that Obama has refused to release (a complete list would fill volumes):
10. State senate papers. In the 2008 primary, Obama criticized Hillary Clinton for not releasing papers from her eight years as First Lady–but failed to produce any papers from his eight years in Springfield. “They could have been thrown out,” he said.
9. Academic transcripts. His supposed academic brilliance was a major selling point, but Obama (by his own admission) was a mediocre student. His GPA at Occidental was aB-plus at best, and his entering class at Columbia was weak. Can he prove his merit?
8. Book proposal. Obama’s literary agent claimed he was “born in Kenya”–for sixteen years. His original book proposal exists–biographer David Maraniss refers to it–and seems to have embellished other key details of his life. Yet it has never been released.
7. Medical records. In 2000, and again (briefly) in 2008, GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain released thousands of pages of his medical records. Obama, who had abused drugs and continued smoking, merely provided a one-page doctor’s note.
6. Small-dollar donors. In 2008, the McCain campaign released the names of donors who had contributed less than $200, though it was not required to do so. But the Obama campaign refused, amidst accusations it had accepted illegal foreign contributions.
5. The Khalidi tape. In 2003, Obama attended a party for his good friend, the radical Palestinian academic Rashid Khalidi. The event featured incendiary anti-Israel rhetoric. The LA Times broke the story, but has refused to release the tape–and so has Obama.
4. The real White House guest list. Touting its transparency, the Obama White House released its guest logs–but kept many visits secret, and moved meetings with lobbyistsoff-site. It also refused to confirm the identities of visitors like Bertha Lewis of ACORN.
3. Countless FOIA requests. The Obama administration has been described as “the worst” ever in complying with Freedom of Information Act requests for documents. It has also punished whistleblowers like David Walpin, who exposed cronyism in Americorps.
2. Health reform negotiations. Candidate Obama promised that health care reform negotiations would be televised on C-SPAN. Instead, there were back-room deals worth millions with lobbyists and legislators–the details of which are only beginning to emerge.
1. Fast and Furious documents. After months of stonewalling Congress, Attorney General Eric Holder asked President Obama to use executive privilege to conceal thousands of documents related to the deadly scandal–and Obama did just that.
In addition to the above, Obama and his campaign have lied about many facts about his past–his membership in the New Party; his extensive connections with ACORN; and his continued relationship with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright, among other examples. Obama’s own memoir is filled with fabrications. And now he is lying about his opponent’s honorable record in business. He–and the media–have no shame.

Romney’s Speech in Pennsylvania Today
Mitt Romney gave a speech today in Pennsylvania that is getting rave reviews.
Mitt really hit it out of the park today. All I can say is, “Wow!”
Watching the video, I was struck by the fact that there were no teleprompters, and Mitt only glanced down occasionally at his notes, primarily when he wanted to quote someone exactly.
He was animated, alive, and forceful. And this is the guy some people were complaining about being too stiff? Not this guy.
He took the fight to Obama. He dinged Obama again and again on the failures of his policies and his lack of understanding of how our economy works. He kept going back to Obama’s extraordinary speech last week on how business owners didn’t build their business, government did. And he pushed home his five points of getting our economy going again.
He slammed Obama for not understanding the fundamental nature of our country. He quoted Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence that our rights are God-given, not government-given.
The speech is thirty minutes long and well worth your time watching it.
