“The more we learn about the bill, the more we learn it is even more unaffordable than was suspected,” said Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, the Republicans’ budget chief in the Senate.

“The bill has to be removed from the books because we don’t have the money,” he said.

The hidden shortfall between new spending and new taxes was revealed just after Supreme Court justices grilled the law’s supporters about its compliance with the Constitution’s limits on government activity. If the court doesn’t strike down the law, it will force taxpayers to find another $17 trillion to pay for the increased spending.

The $17 trillion in extra promises was revealed by an analysis of the law’s long-term requirements. The additional obligations, when combined with existing Medicare and Medicaid funding shortfalls, leave taxpayers on the hook for an extra $82 trillion in health care obligations over the next 75 years.

The federal government has an additional $17 trillion unfunded gap in other obligations, including Social Security, bringing the total shortfall to $99 trillion.

That shortfall is different from existing debt. The federal government already owes $15 trillion in debt, including $5 trillion in funds borrowed during Obama’s term in office.

That $99 trillion in unfunded future expenses is more more than six years of wealth generated by the United States, which now produces just over $15 trillion of value per year.

The $99 trillion funding gap is equal to almost 30 years of the the current federal budget, which was $3.36 trillion for 2011.

Currently, the Social Security system faces $7 trillion shortfall between spending and taxes over the next 75 years, according to the Government Accountability Office.

Also, Medicare will is underfunded by $38 trillion, and Medicaid will consume another $20 trillion of the taxpayer’s wealth beyond what is budgeted, according to estimates prepared by the actuarial office at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The short-term cost of the Obamacare law is $2.6 trillion, almost triple the $900 billion cost promised by Obama and his Democratic allies, said Sessions.

The extra $17 trillion gap was discovered by applying standard federal estimates and models to the law’s spending obligations, Sessions said.

For example, Session’s examination of the health care law’s “premium support” program shows a funding gap $12 billion wider that predicted.

The same review also showed the law added another $5 trillion in unfunded obligations for the Medicaid program.

“President Obama told the American people that his health law would cost $900 billion over ten years and that it would not add ‘one dime’ to the debt… this health law adds an entirely new obligation—one we cannot pay for—and puts the entire financing of the United States government in jeopardy,” Sessions said in a floor speech.

“We don’t have the money… We have to reduce the [obligations] that we have.”

While the CorruptMedia does its worst to blackout the unfolding scandal over Libya, rather than stupidly playing defense on the left’s abortion-turf, New Media has done its best to report the Libya story and get it out there. This is called a counter-narrative, and with the help of a number of unforced errors on behalf of the Obama campaign, it might be having a negative effect on the most important number for an incumbent seeking reelection: job approval.

In the Rasmussen poll that tracks the president’s approval rating amongst likely voters, over the last four days., Obama’s job approval has dipped from 50 to 47%. Meanwhile, his disapproval number has spiked to 52%. That’s five-point negative spread.

Normally, I would ignore that as statistical noise. But what makes the Rasmussen drop noteworthy is a similar plunge in the Gallup Poll — which is even worse for the president because Gallup measures Obama’s approval ratings with “all adults.” Generally, the looser the screen the better Democrats poll. If Obama is cratering with “all adults,” his numbers are likely worse among the tighter screen of registered and likely voters.

Today, Gallup has Obama upside down, 46-49% with all adults. Three days ago, Obama was above water, 51-44%. That’s a huge swing.

Again, this might just be statistical noise. But when you look at the news coming out of Libya and the small, mean-spirited pettiness we’re seeing from the president and his campaign, there’s reason to believe this shift might be real.

Examiner.com: CIA told to “stand down” rather than save lives

A top official in the Federal Voting Assistance Program this week notified election officials across the nation that a transport plane crashed at Shindad Air Base on Oct. 19.

The crash resulted in the destruction of 4,700 pounds of mail inbound to troops serving in the area.

Federal officials in their email to state election offices said they did not know if any ballots were destroyed. They also said the lost mail was limited to one zip code.

But they recommended that election officials resend a new ballot to anyone who requested one since the first ballot may have been destroyed in the crash and fire.

Four Americans died in the jihadi attack on our consulate in Benghazi. Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods, two retired SEALS who were working as civilian security specialists in Benghazi, learned that Ambassador Stevens and nine other people at the consulate were under attack andrushed to their defense. The fourth man was Sean Smith, father of three, an Air Force veteran, working for the State Department in Libya.

TheWhite House, the Pentagon, the State Department, and our military monitored the battle in real time starting with the first phone calls directly from Benghazi.

A small military force from Tripoli was dispatched and was able to rescue some personnel hiding in other buildings. Ambassador Stevens remained missing, as did these three men. The fire-fight raged on.

The shocking news of October 22 was that a drone ordered in from Tripoli sent back images of the attack in real time. The battle was sent on streaming video direct to the Situation Room in the White House. Within two hours, emails from Benghazi reported that Al Qaeda in Libya was claiming responsibility.

President Obama, our Commander-in-Chief, had military options available to try and save our men. He could have had the drone armed with Hellfire missiles. He could have scrambled fighter jets from Sicily to drive off the attackers. He could have dropped in Special Forces. He had seven hours to take action.

He did nothing. Doherty and Woods died in the last hour of the attack.

RUSH: It’s so devastating you can’t find it anywhere. You can’t find it outside of a little blurb on CBS. You can’t find it anywhere after Reuters publishes it. Fox has got it. I’ve got it. Fox had it last night. This whole Benghazi thing is blown wide open, and nobody’s talking about it.

The U.K. Daily Mail, unlike most of our politically corrupt media, is not working for Obama’s re-election, so it is still reporting news:

It is the latest development on the deadly attack on September 11 after it was revealed that American drones were in the skies above the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.

Defense department officials considered sending troops in to rescue the ambassador and staff, according to CBS News, but ultimately decided not to. They would have been able to watch the attack on-screen as it unfolded.

Sharyl Attkisson of CBS: “Sending the military into another country can be a sensitive and delicate decision. CBS News has been told Secretary of State Hillary Clinton did seek clearances from Libya to fly in their airspace, but the administration won’t say anything further about what was said or decided on that front.”

Former Assistant Defense Secretary Bing West told America Live:

For the United States military to say that they were 480 miles away and they couldn’t do anything, and they couldn’t move one aircraft in 8 hours? I’d say it’s time to relieve a lot of people in the chain of command… If your ambassador has been either killed or captured, and is missing at the hands of terrorists, you do not ask any country for “Mother may I?” before you come across the border to save your own.

At 5 p.m., President Obama met with Vice President Biden and Secretary of Defense Panetta in the Oval Office. The U.S. military base in Sigonella, Sicily, was 480 miles away from Benghazi. Stationed at Sigonella were Special Operations Forces, transport aircraft, and attack aircraft – a much more formidable force than 22 men from the embassy….

Fighter jets could have been at Benghazi in an hour; the commandos inside three hours. If the attackers were a mob, as intelligence reported, then an F18 in afterburner, roaring like a lion, would unnerve them. This procedure was applied often in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Conversely, if the attackers were terrorists, then the U.S. commandos would eliminate them. But no forces were dispatched from Sigonella.

By about two in the morning, the American embassy received word that the ambassador was dead….The fight began at 10 p.m. and petered out at dawn when the Libyan militia came to the aid of the Americans.

Bing West concludes: “It is bewildering that no U.S. aircraft ever came to the aid of the defenders. If even one F18 had been on station, it would have detected the location of hostiles firing at night and deterred and attacked the mortar sites. For our top leadership, with all the technological and military tools at their disposal, to have done nothing for seven hours was a joint civilian and military failure of initiative and nerve.”

At some point, President Obama went to bed. Whether it was before or after the last men died, we don’t know. He had a fundraising trip to Las Vegas to get up for the next morning. In the morning, President Obama skipped his national security briefing, as he had skipped so many others, forty percent of them to be exact. Then President Obama flew off to do his primary job – fundraising.

In the second Presidential debate, Obama tried to silence Romney’s questions on Libya by a show of outrage. How dare Romney question his leadership on Libya?

The U.S. Military does not abandon our men, but they would not act in these circumstances without an order from the Commander in Chief.

Did Obama stay up into the night in the Situation Room, watching the attack in Benghazi in real time, as he was proud to boast he had watched the take-down of Bin Laden? Who did he confer with about how to intervene to save our people? Why did he decide to do nothing?

Military sources tell CBS News that resources at the three bases include fighter jets and Specter AC-130 gunships, which the sources say can be extremely effective in flying in and buzzing a crowd to disperse it…. Add to the controversy the fact that the last two Americans didn’t die until more than six hours into the attack, and the question of U.S. military help becomes very important.

Maybe Obama wasn’t in the Situation Room. This is how Obama described events that night during the second Presidential debate:

I know these folks, and I know their families. So nobody’s more concerned about their safety and security than I am.

So as soon as we found out that the Benghazi consulate was being overrun, I was on the phone with my national security team, and I gave them three instructions. Number one, beef up our security and – and – and procedures not just in Libya but every embassy and consulate in the region.

Why was Obama on the phone with his national security team instead of in the Situation Room with the highest levels of the CIA, Defense, State and our military? Why did he fly off to fundraise in Las Vegas the next morning?

As former U.N. Ambassador Bolton said on Greta van Susteren:

But I tell you, one thing I’ve not understood about the way this played out on September the 11th and the day after, is why the entire top levels at the administration weren’t on red alert over this. I can’t speak for what happens inside the Obama administration, but I tell you, any administration I’d have been in, the president and his top advisers would have been on this immediately around the clock.

“They made zero adjustments in this. They stood and they watched and our people died, “said an outraged retired CIA officer, Gary Berntsen on CBS, who led missions targeting bin Laden and responding to the Kenyan embassy bombings.

The details of the Benghazi 9/11 attack have been inexorably emerging despite White House efforts — supported by the disinterest of the mainstream media — to delay their report to the public until after the Presidential election. The Senate Intelligence Committee has been badgering Obama for information for weeks, and getting nothing but stonewalling.

According to the vice chair Senator Chambliss:

We got pushback, both from the White House and the intelligence community, early on. We couldn’t figure it out. I mean, that was really strange – because they never do that.

Former told Glenn Beck, “They saw it in live time. They knew what was happening…Only local assets …were sent to help them.”

Based on her twenty-year career as an operations officer, Lopez believes James Clapper, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and General David Petraeus are all aware of what really happened in Libya.

Lopez told Glenn that she had seen agents come under heavy fire in the past, but there were always people and assets who assembled to come to their aid. “I have never seen a situation where a facility was under attack like that and nothing happens.”

Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton told Greta Susteren on Fox News:

Bolton: We know that the security guards at the compound in Benghazi were in cell phone contact with the State Department in real time.

VAN SUSTEREN: Well, according to what we can piece together, at 4:05 local time in the United States … there was.. an e-mail, …said, U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi under attack. What we have been told is that during that time is that President Obama, Vice President Biden and Secretary of Defense Panetta at some time that evening or that afternoon were in the Oval Office together.

Obama reportedly canceled the operation to kill Osama bin Laden three times before saying yes, because he got cold feet about the possible political harm to himself if the mission failed.

Some lawmakers are asking why U.S. military help from outside Libya didn’t arrive as terrorists battered more than 30 Americans over the course of more than seven hours. The assault was launched by an armed mob of dozens that torched buildings and used rocket propelled grenades, mortars and AK-47 rifles.

CBS News has been told that, hours after the attack began, an unmanned Predator drone was sent over the U.S. mission in Benghazi, and that the drone and other reconnaissance aircraft apparently observed the final hours of the protracted battle…

Why did we send an unarmed drone to observe and send back streaming video instead of arming it with Hellfire missiles? Or if it was armed, why weren’t the missiles fired?

Rush Limbaugh thinks it was politics. President Obama’s re-election campaign has few accomplishments to point to, so Rush believes they felt it imperative to keep up the myth that Obama had destroyed Al Qaeda by killing bin Laden. Keeping up the myth meant ignoring the real and growing expansion of Al Qaeda. A full blown military intervention doesn’t go with their preferred story that an insulting video inflamed a spontaneous mob.

Rush:

I heard K. T. McFarland on Fox this morning. She’s the former national security adviser for George W. Bush. She said that Al-Qaeda is in 30 countries now. They’re not decimated. They’re not on the run. … the people on the ground in Cairo were shouting, “We’re all Osamas, Obama, we’re all Osamas.” Meaning, Obama, like you say, was bragging about getting bin Laden. Twenty-one times they mentioned it and bragged about it at the Democrat convention. And these protesters in Cairo were saying, “Yeah, well, we’re all Osamas, Obama.” So, you know, Obama’s crowing has come home to roost.

Everything was sacrificed to the goal of acting as if the jihadi war against America was inconsequential. Libya was to be ‘normalized.’ Not by doing the actual work of stabilizing the country, but by our Administration refusing to station Marines there to protect our ambassador. The attack on our embassy was normalized by treating it like a spontaneous demonstration, nothing you would scramble a Specter AC-130 for.

Ambassador Bolton thinks Obama is blinded by his ideology.

BOLTON: Some say, of course, there’s a cover-up going on and that the administration’s lying. I’m afraid there’s actually a more disturbing explanation. The president’s ideology has put a screen over his consciousness. And when the real world tries to intrude on it, it can’t get through. Because after all: The War on Terror is over, Al-Qaeda’s been defeated, the Arab Spring has brought democracy to Libya. And a terrorist attack that brutally kills four Americans is wildly inconsistent with that ideology and worldview. The president can’t process reality, and his aides can’t get through to him.

Perhaps our President truly believes Islam is a religion of peace, and only provocative American behavior causes attacks on us. There is no danger, because there is no resurgent jihadi movement at war with western civilization, just some criminal fanatics that can be dealt with on an individual basis. If you truly believe that, then it almost makes sense to note the Libyan dislike of armed Marines guarding our ambassador and use unarmed locals instead. Forcing Stevens to do without military protection was apparently the State Department’s idea of diplomacy. According to State Department Regional Security Officer Eric Nordstrom, testifying at the October 11 congressional hearings on the Benghazi cover-up, “In deference to sensitivity to Libyan practice the guards at Benghazi were unarmed.”

Yet Rush’s theory that the lack of security in Libya was about electoral politics is supported by Republican Congressman Darrell Issa, chairman of the U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Congressman Issa believes that Clinton and Obama were directly involved in operations in Libya. ‘These critical foreign policy decisions are not made by low or mid-level career officials — they are typically made through a structured and well-reasoned process that includes the National Security Council and the White House,’ Issa wrote in a letter to Obama.

The letter claims that Obama had a political motivation in rejecting Stevens’ security requests, since the president was eager to show improving conditions in Libya after the U.S.-led international operation that toppled Libya dictator Moamar Gadhafi.

The scandal now has erupted far beyond why our Libyan embassy was left so vulnerable to a jihadi attack on 9/11/12.

Our President chose to let these four men fight for seven hours and die alone in that Benghazi compound. How and why did Obama decide not to help them?

This afternoon, the Obama campaign released its latest ad from a celebrity. This one was from Lena Dunham, 26-year-old creator of HBO’s raunchy series Girls. It’s an astoundingly tasteless ad comparing voting for the first time to losing your virginity. Really. And Dunham recommends that if you’re going to have sex – er, vote – for the first time, you should really do it with President Barack Obama. Here’s the transcript:

Your first time shouldn’t be with just anybody. You want to do it with a great guy. It should be with a guy with beautiful … somebody who really cares about and understands women.

A guy who cares about whether you get health insurance, and specifically whether you get birth control. The consequences are huge. You want to do it with a guy who brought the troops out of Iraq. You don’t want a guy who says, “Oh hey, I’m at the library studying,” when he’s really out not signing the Lilly Ledbetter Act.

Or who thinks that gay people should never have beautiful, complicated weddings of the kind we see on Bravo or TLC all the time. It’s a fun game to say, “Who are you voting for?” and they say “I don’t want to tell you,” and you say, “No, who are you voting for,” and they go, “Guess!”

Think about how you want to spend those four years. In college age time, that’s 150 years. Also, it’s super uncool to be out and about and someone says, “Did you vote,” and “No, I didn’t vote, I wasn’t ready.”

My first time voting was amazing. It was this line in the sand. Before I was a girl. Now I was a woman. I went to the polling station and pulled back the curtain. I voted for Barack Obama.

Yes, she just compared sex with voting. And she mocked virgins – “No, I didn’t vote, I wasn’t ready.” And she said that Barack Obama’s the guy she’d rather have sex – er, vote – with. She actually saved herself for Barack Obama (she’s 26) – she could have swiped her V(oting)-card with John Kerry, but he was too limp a candidate, apparently. A real flip-flopper.

So she chose to do it for the first time with Barack Obama, since he “cares about and understands women.” In fact, he understands them so well that he exploits them for insane commercials comparing losing your virginity with voting. Obama has young daughters. But that didn’t stop him from releasing this commercial. Because this is what Obama thinks of your daughters. This is Obama’s official campaign ad. Paid for with his campaign money. Distributed by his campaign. If this ad were any more demeaning to women – who apparently care only about having sex, if you listen to Lena “You Want To Do It” Dunham — it would be produced by Bill Maher and star Bill Clinton.

Oh, wait. That’s Obama’s actual campaign.

First it was Big Bird. Then it was binders. Then it was bayonets. Now it’s about birth control.

According to Barack Obama, this campaign isn’t about the economy. Or foreign policy. It’s about free birth control as advocated by unbelievably wealthy celebrities. If Obama goes any smaller in this campaign, we’re going to need a microscope to find him.

And God knows that women don’t want to have sex – er, vote – with a small candidate. In fact, they might prefer a candidate who provides, say, jobs. Or an economy that’s not a disaster area. Or perhaps consulates full of live ambassadors.

But at least Dunham got one thing right. The folks who vote for Barack Obama want voting without consequences.

Palestinians fired dozens of rockets into Israel from Gaza on Wednesday and an Israeli air strike killed a militant, a day after the Emir of Qatar made a rare visit to the enclave’s Hamas leadership.

Hamas claimed responsibility for some of the rocket and mortar bomb attacks, prompting some Israelis to wonder whether it had been emboldened by the Qatari visit on Tuesday that broke the Islamist group’s diplomatic isolation.
In recent months, Hamas has largely held its fire when other militant factions have launched cross-border rocket attacks, but the sudden upsurge in violence stoked fears that the hostilities could escalate further.

Hamas accused Israel of stepping up air strikes in the Gaza Strip, a move it said was meant to convey Israeli anger over Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani’s visit, and pledged to “continue to hold a gun … until Palestine is liberated”.

Israel said it was “astounding” that Qatar, a U.S.-allied Gulf state, would take sides in the Palestinian dispute and endorse Hamas, branded by the West as a terrorist group. Hamas seized the Gaza Strip in 2007 from fighters loyal to the Fatah faction of Western-backed Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The Qatar Emir is pledging $400 million to the terrorists which will buy a lot more rockets and probably enough explosives to keep the suicide bombers busy for a while. The Emir is just the latest in a long line of “peacemakers” who believe that Hamas can be bribed into laying down its arms.

That won’t happen, of course. All Qatar has done is prolonged the agony for both sides.

Obama has proved himself a disciple of the doctrine that for every problem there’s a government solution.

Romney, by contrast, embraces individual initiative and entrepreneurship. He would turn back the encroachment of the bureaucracy into the private sector.

Romney would replace the heavy hand of government with the invisible hand of a rational marketplace working to produce broad prosperity.

While both poverty and dependency have increased on Obama’s watch, Romney promises to replace government checks with private sector jobs and reverse the decline in middle class incomes. It is heavy lifting, but we favor the candidate who is committed to it.

Romney’s goal is to help all Americans live independent and productive lives, free to rise to the extent of their personal capabilities. He would not shield them from risk or the consequences of their decisions, but neither would he deny them their earned rewards.

Our hope is that Mitt Romney would restore faith in the core principles of free men and women, free minds and free markets that made America great, and will keep it so.

There’s no question Donald Trump pulled yet another one of his classic publicity stunts today. Just a few minutes ago, as promised, he dropped a video announcing Big News. In this case, it was less about news and more about calling attention to The Most transparent President In History’s complete lack of transparency.

The immediate reaction from almost all corners — right and left and media — was scorn, hate, and ridicule. Fine, you might not like Trump’s methods, but what exactly is wrong with asking a sitting president to be transparent about his background as an adult — especially a president the media refused to vet in 2008?

Laugh at Trump all you want, but just a few months ago we saw the media go absolutely insane over a poorly sourced story involving a teenage Romney cutting a kid’s hair a half-century ago. Just today, the anti-gay BuzzFeed Politics wrote a piece about Mitt Romney’s tan. As I write this, the media’s absolutely panting over whatever The Chicago Machine’s allies in the form Gloria Allred and the “Boston Globe” are cooking up.

But I’d like to know why Obama would go against his redistributionist nature and choose to deprive a charity of his choice from receiving a cool $5 million from The Top One-Percent. Reportedly, Obama’s spent millions to keep these records secret, so there’s no question he’ll refuse Trump’s offer. And that’s what keeps me from caving to pressure that insists I jump on the Trump-Is-a-Laughingstock bandwagon.

In a perfect world I could jump on the bandwagon, but it’s the media and the left who have set absurd standards involving every nook and cranny of a Republican’s past. And if it takes a stunt like this to call attention to this glaring double standard and the shadowy past of our secretive president, we’re better off with Trump than without him.

Now we know that keeping whatever’s in those records secret is more important to Obama than a charity receiving $5 million. Moreover, voters everywhere have now been reminded of this fact.

Laugh it up, but in my book that’s a good thing.

The ad, entitled “At Stake”, is a 30-second spot from the super PAC American Crossroads, which supports Republican candidates around the country and is run by Karl Rove.

“In the last few years, America’s been knocked down,” Eastwood’s distinctive raspy voice says over images of an abandoned factory and unemployed workers.

“When someone doesn’t get the job done, you’ve gotta hold them accountable,” Eastwood continues. “We need someone who can turn it around fast and that man is Mitt Romney.”
He then urges people to act fast because “the future of our country is at stake.”

Eastwood’s last foray into the political spotlight was during the Republican National Convention in early August, with his unscripted comedy routine with an empty chair. While the convention crowd ate it up, some questioned why the Romney campaign used more than 10 minutes of their primetime coverage on something not focused on the candidate.

State GOP Files Complaint Against Obama Campaigners At CSU

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) – Early voting only got under way on Monday and already a complaint has been filed.

Colorado Republicans say Democrats wrongly offered Colorado State University students free pizza and T-shirts in exchange for voting.

Colorado state law says campaigners have to be 100 feet from a polling place, but there is some grey area, particularly when a polling place is inside a large public building like CSU’s Lory Student Center.

The Colorado Republican Committee sent a letter to the Larimer County clerk alleging wrongdoing by campaigners for the Democratic Party during the first day of early voting on the CSU campus.

“Operatives for the Democratic Party, or for what appears to be the Obama campaign, had set up a table located right outside the Lory Student Center, which is where one of the early vote locations is,” Colorado GOP Chairman Ryan Call said.

Photos were provided by the Colorado Republican Party that they say demonstrates their concern. They claim the Democratic organizers were too close to the entrance of the polling place and were violating state laws.

“They were essentially offering students and passers-by T-shirts and campaign T-shirts with the impression, very clearly, that you had to go vote first, and if you voted, then they would give you free T-shirts and free pizza,” Call said.

Students involved with the Obama campaign wouldn’t comment, but CBS4 received a statement from the Colorado Democratic Party.

“This is a hypocritical charge … the party that has spent over half a million dollars on a firm accused of voter fraud across the country should join us in encouraging people to vote instead of making frivolous complaints,” the statement said.

“It’s a balancing act, there’s no question about it,” Larimer County Clerk and Recorder Scott Doyle said. “There were some banners put up, there were some signs put up, and there was some question about locations of all of those; and so mid-morning I got involved and we were able to work that out throughout today.”

Doyle says he was able to talk to both sides and the issue was resolved.

“When I did have discussion with campaigners, they were very accommodating. They didn’t want to cause any problems and they wanted gather their stuff up and move back to where they should have been, or where we thought they should have been, and didn’t want to be imposing illegally on anyone,” Doyle said.

As a general rule Doyle is asking campaigners to stay 100 feet away from any door that accesses the Lory Student Center. He also says he expects more of those types of issues to arise as Election Day nears in such a hotly contested presidential race.

Bolton told the auditorium, packed with approximately 200 attendees, that Obama has adopted a submissive “Mother, may I?” approach to diplomacy, in the vain hope that other nations will return the favor.

“The tragedy of the Arab Spring is, in part, our government didn’t understand what was at work there,” Bolton said. “And we saw the tragedy play out in the most tragic way in Benghazi.”

Attempts by the White House to deflect blame for the lack of security at the Benghazi embassy prior to the Sept. 11, 2012 murder of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens were irresponsible, Bolton said.

“When [Ronald Reagan appointee] Jim Baker or [George W. Bush appointee] Colin Powell was secretary of state, you don’t think they would pay attention to where their people were most at risk?”

While Bolton, now a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, said it was possible the White House had deliberately hidden facts related to the attack to protect its image, he said it was more likely that the Obama administration is so misguided that it genuinely believed its narrative.

“Al-Qaida’s on the run,” Bolton said. “Running right into our consulates, apparently.”

Bolton’s also said Obama’s hot-mic promise to Russian President Dmitri Medvedev in March 2012 that he would have more flexibility to deal with Russian requests after the November election had provided moral support to America’s enemies.

“That’s the first time I’ve ever seen an American president negotiate not for his country, but for himself. When the Russians are blue in the Kremlin, when the Taliban are feeling down in their caves, they play that tape back.”

The new revelations come in the form of an email sent by the State Department Operations Center to the White House, the Pentagon, the FBI and unspecified elements of the intelligence community. The email was sent at 6:07 p.m. EDT, which was 12:07 a.m. Benghazi time. The attack in Benghazi had started just over two hours earlier, at 3:50 p.m. Washington time.

Reuters reports that the email message was headlined “Update 2: Ansar al-Sharia Claims Responsibility for Benghazi Attack.” It read, in part: “Embassy Tripoli reports the group claimed responsibility on Facebook and Twitter and has called for an attack on Embassy Tripoli.” One of the recipients listed on the email was the White House Situation Room.

A document produced by the State Department’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security on Sep. 12th, based on public media reports, mentions Ansar al-Sharia but says, “There has been no substantiated claim of responsibility for the attacks, though media reports suggest members of Ansar al-Sharia participated in the attack.” The document goes on to say that Ansar al-Sharia has an affiliation with al Qaeda.

The administration’s inability to substantiate the claim of responsibility might explain its reluctance to call the attack “terrorism” in the early days. It does not explain why the White House sent surrogates Jay Carney and UN Ambassdor Susan Rice out repeatedly to insist the attack was a spontaneous reaction to a YouTube video.

On September 14th alone, White House Press secretary mentioned the video more than a dozen times. He was pointedly asked three times if he meant to connect the video to the Benghazi attack and said (the third time): “We have no evidence at this time to suggest otherwise, that there was a pre-planned or ulterior instigation behind that unrest.”

But the White House did have information, almost immediately, to suggest a militia aligned with al Qaeda might be responsible for the attack. The question is why that possibility was not raised at all while the other possibility, outrage over a video, was raised dozens of times that first week.

Is it only a coincidence that the White House’s favored explanation is by far the less politically explosive of the two?

(Reuters) – Officials at the White House and State Department were advised two hours after attackers assaulted the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, on September 11 that an Islamic militant group had claimed credit for the attack, official emails show.

The emails, obtained by Reuters from government sources not connected with U.S. spy agencies or the State Department and who requested anonymity, specifically mention that the Libyan group called Ansar al-Sharia had asserted responsibility for the attacks.

The brief emails also show how U.S. diplomats described the attack, even as it was still under way, to Washington.

These comments rang out with a snarky condescension that was only surpassed by their complete lack of factual support.

Early Friday morning, thugs presumably supporting President Obama beat up the son of Wisconsin State Senator Neal Kedzie outside of his apartment in Whitewater. Kedzie caught the two men removing a Romney sign outside of his apartment around two o’clock in the morning. After telling them to put the signs back, one of the thugs attacked Kedzie and then put him in a choke hold and continued to beat his head.

7. Did any of the communications from intelligence officials in Libya on September 10 include discussions of threats to the consulate in Benghazi or other U.S. interests? Will the administration make those communications available?

8. The State Department’s timeline notes that Ambassador Stevens, who participated in meetings around Benghazi on September 10, was instructed to remain in the Benghazi compound on September 11, the day of the attack? Why? Were there specific threat warnings?

9. Did any intelligence product—raw or finished—include detailed reporting on any protest outside the compound in Benghazi before the attack began?

10. If not, why did administration officials repeatedly mention alleged protests? Where did those claims originate?

11. A senior administration official told the Washington Post on September 13 that the compound in Benghazi featured a “robust American security presence.” Does the White House stand by that assessment?

12. Why did U.N. ambassador Susan Rice, who has no direct involvement in the Libya attacks and no special intelligence knowledge on Libya, appear on multiple TV shows on September 16 to claim that spontaneous protests over the video led to the attack? Was Secretary Clinton or some other high official asked to represent the administration, before Rice was sent out instead?

13. Did James Clapper, the director of national intelligence and CIA director David Petraeus clear Susan Rice’s talking points? If not, who did?

14. A September 28 statement from Clapper’s office claiming that administration talking points had come from the intelligence community was not signed by Clapper. Why not?

15. Who was on the interagency phone call on Saturday, September 15, to prepare Rice for her TV interviews?

16. Did Rice talk to any senior Obama campaign advisers before she spoke for the administration?

17. Is there any intelligence product—raw or finished—that links the attacks in Benghazi to the anti-Islam YouTube video?

18. If not, why did President Obama himself make a direct link between the film and the attack during his September 18 appearance on the David Letterman show?

19. Will the White House release unclassified versions of the PDBs and Daily Threat Briefs for the three weeks before the Benghazi attack?
