Mitt Romney DID NOT Flub Geography!
Romney was right on geography.
In the final 2012 presidential debate on October 22, 2012, Mitt Romney made a simple geographical statement concerning Iran and Syria. While the liberal left fact-checkers seem to think that Governor Romney somehow flubbed his geography, I’d advise these folks to take a look at a world map! They’ll clearly see that Governor Romney was absolutely correct in his geographical statement of fact.
ROMNEY: Well, let’s step back and talk about what’s happening in Syria and how important it is. First of all, 30,000 people being killed by their government is a humanitarian disaster. Secondly, Syria is an opportunity for us because Syria plays an important role in the Middle East, particularly right now.
ROMNEY: Syria is Iran’s only ally in the Arab world. It’s their route to the sea. It’s the route for them to arm Hezbollah in Lebanon, which threatens, of course, our ally, Israel. And so seeing Syria remove Assad is a very high priority for us. Number two, seeing a – a replacement government being responsible people is critical for us. And finally, we don’t want to have military involvement there. We don’t want to get drawn into a military conflict.
Alas! Romney did not say it’s Iran’s ONLY route. (If he would have, he would have been wrong.) But he correctly said Syria’s their ONLY ally in the Arab world. He said it’s their route to the sea. And it is! Romney’s geography is right on. Syria IS VERY important to Iran and IS their route to the sea.
Simply stated, Iran can go through Iraq to Syria and have a direct route to Mediterranean Sea and directly to the Atlantic Ocean. Iran would otherwise only have their southern border into the Persian Gulf into the Arabian Sea and then into the Indian Ocean and south around the Continent of Africa. That’s a very long way around for Iran! In looking to Iran’s northern border, the Caspian Sea leads nowhere out.
So again, the fact-checkers who claim Romney flubbed geography need to look at a map and review the transcript of what the Governor said before rushing to claim he doesn’t know his geography. Clearly he does, and clearly he knows a lot more than these so-called fact-checkers.

but he DID FLUB the CAMPAIGN! 😦
Right on! See another viewpoint on same topic. Haha! So Romney doesn’t know his geography, huh? Looks like all the “fact-checkers” need to learn geography!!!
