“freedom cookies” …

by on August 17, 2012

Chris McMurray, the owner of the “Crumb and Get It” bakery in Virginia, refused to host Vice President Joe Biden Wednesday because he disagreed with President Barack Obama’s now infamous “you didn’t build that” comments.

Remarkably, Secret Service agents went to the bakery, told the owner, “thanks for standing up and saying ‘no,’” and bought cookies and cupcakes.

The next day, according to the Roanoke Times, “Crumb and Get It” sold out of cookies, and the owner had to close the store because he ran out of cookie dough.

The cookies, which some customers dubbed “freedom cookies,” sold out by noon as even people outside of Virginia called in orders to support McMurray’s business.

“It’s been a great day, a lot of great support,” McMurray told the Times. “A lot of folks are calling orders from out of state for local businesses and charities. That’s what we’ve got to catch up on.”
