On the top of Thursday’s broadcast of his radio show, Sean Hannity revealed Erling Davis, the Obamacare operator he called early in his Monday show, got fired. Hannity quizzed her on how well the law is being received by applicants and she revealed no one liked it. Hannity had Davis on his show today and revealed he will give her a year’s salary of $26,000 and help her find a new job.

SEAN HANNITY: Something happened between the time we made that call to you, and now, what happened?

ERLING DAVIS: They fired me from my job.

HANNITY: Because of the phone call, the information that you gave us?

DAVIS: Yes sir.

HANNITY: Tell us what happened.

DAVIS: Okay, the day I received the call from the radio station, I had to go pick up my best friend that night, and then someone was like, ”someone was looking for you.” But, I don’t know who that person is. So I was like, well I’m going to come back in the morning, because I had to go back to work. So the next day I came back and they had, like, two people escort me upstairs to H.R. And then it was three head people and me, we sat down, and I’m like, “why am I up here?” I figured, okay, they wanna talk about the phone call – the incident.

Then the lady sitting behind the desk; I don’t know what their name is, but the lady that was sitting behind the desk, I guess called up another head lady on her cell phone, so the lady was talking, and I couldn’t really understand what she was saying because she had me on speakerphone. I remember her saying, “We can’t have this type of stuff going on here, so we have to release you.” But they had locked the doors and everything; I guess they didn’t want anybody to come in there.
So when she told me they had to release me, that’s when I put my name tag – my badge – on the desk, and something was going wrong with my cell phone, so that’s when I tried to call my ride to come pick me up, but the lady next to me was just, like, being rude. She had, like, an attitude.

HANNITY: Now, did they give you… You were hired… How long had you been working with this company?

DAVIS: I started September 23.

HANNITY: Okay, so it’s a fairly new job for you. Did they—I assume they put you through some training, right?

DAVIS: Yes sir, they did.

HANNITY: And did they ever tell you that you’re not allowed to take a call from a radio show? Your job was to answer phones.

DAVIS: I did not hear anything about that. There were so many of us in a big group, you can only talk so loud.

HANNITY: Right, and one of the things that struck me. I was really impressed, and I said that to you on Monday. You are patient, you are kind, you answered all our questions. You were totally honest. Wasn’t that what you were hired to do?

DAVIS: Yeah, I’m just out here tryin’ to help everybody. And I know, like, some people have been making bad comments about me. Some people have been making good comments about me. But, some people are like, “Oh, you knew you shouldn’t have said that!” And I’m just like, okay… I kinda felt bad about it. My gosh, I got fired.

HANNITY: And what was the specific reason? When they sat you down, did they give you a specific reason?

DAVIS: They said that no contact with the media. No type of media whatsoever. We’re not allowed to do that at that company.

HANNITY: Meaning, in other words, they didn’t tell you before you were hired, they didn’t tell you during your training, but then they told you after the fact that you aren’t allowed to be on the media if somebody called in. It’s not your fault I called.

Obama Tells Americans to Enroll via Phone, Phone Number Crashes

As Americans become more and more perturbed over the Obamacare exchange website glitches that have crippled the rollout of President Obama’s signature program, President Obama took to the podium on Monday and suggested that Americans apply in person or via phone for enrollment in the Obamacare exchanges. “Nobody is madder than me about the fact that the website isn’t working as well as it should, which means it’s going to get fixed,” Obama said. He then recommended a toll-free phone number to call.

There was only one problem: the Obamcare toll-free phone number was overloaded and immediately crashed. According to Lou Dubois of NBC News, “Call centers now appear overloaded due to volume. ‘Please call back.’” Dubois wasn’t the only one reporting the new glitches. Annie Lowrey of The New York Times added, “For the record, just called 1-800-318-2596, got a busy signal.” Kasie Hunt of NBC News: “Just called the number. They said there’s too high call volume and call back on the weekend. ‘We’re sorry for the inconvenience. Goodbye.’”

Language in a draft of the McConnell-Reid deal (see page 13, section 123) provided to WFPL News shows a provision that increases funding for the massive Olmsted Dam Lock in Paducah, Ky., from $775 million to nearly $2.9 billion.
The dam is considered an important project for the state and region in regards to water traffic along the Ohio River.
AsThe Courier-Journal’s James Bruggers reported in 2011, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said they needed about $2.1 billion for the locks due to “stop and go funding.”
Asked about the additional funding in the proposal, McConnell spokesman Robert Steurer directed all questions to lawmakers who worked on the bill directly.
“Senators (Diane) Feinstein and (Lamar) Alexander, the chair and ranking member of the energy and water subcommittee, worked on the issue and can help you,” he says.
Since 2009, McConnell has been an outspoken supporter of the project, and has been working on getting its funding for some time.

Still, conservative critics of the proposal argue it is nothing more than a “kickback” for McConnell in an age where Tea Parties have eschewed earmarks.
The Olmsted Dam sees nearly 90 billion tons of materials such as coal, petroleum and other goods move through that stretch of the Ohio River annually.
UPDATE 7:30 p.m.:
A statement from Sen. Alexander’s office to BuzzFeed says the language was added to prevent funding from being canceled.

“According to the Army Corps of Engineers, 160 million taxpayer dollars will be wasted because of canceled contracts if this language is not included. Sen. [Diane] Feinstein and I, as chairman and ranking member of the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee, requested this provision. It has already been approved this year by the House and Senate.”

UPDATE 9:35 p.m.:
The Senate passed the McConnell-Reid deal by a 81-18 vote and it now heads to the House.
Among those who voted against the bill were Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, who derided the legislation for overlooking the nation’s debt.
“Tonight, a deal was struck to re-open the government and avoid the debt ceiling deadline. That is a good thing,” Paul said in a statement. “However, our country faces a problem bigger than any deadline: a $17 trillion debt. I am disappointed that Democrats would not compromise to avoid the looming debt debacle.”
Paul’s office has not responded to our request for commenting regarding the provision for the Olmsted project.
In a follow-up e-mail, McConnell’s office told the radio station the GOP leader did not request Alexander put wording to raise the authorization for funding in the bill despite McConnell’s support for earmark funding in the past.

A university graduate, 26 year old Ashley Dionne, posted an open letter on the Facebook page of conservative radio host, Dennis Praeger detailing the negative effects Obamacare has had on her life. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2009 and went back to school to obtain a second degree but has not been able to get a job that offers more than 32 hours a week. Obamacare takes her monthly health costs from $75.00 to $319.00 with a $6,000.00 deductible. She feels her future has been “raped” and she qualifies as the very same “working poor” this law was supposed to help.
Whenever proponents of Obamacare are told of these anecdotal stories outlining the harm that the Affordable Care Act has inflicted on people, they respond with either a denial of it being true, that it only applies to a “small” percentage of people or that the “sacrifice” is worth it to supply health care to those who did not previously have it. In other words, they greet it with a shrug. It is hard held tenet of collectivists that some have to be sacrificed for the “greater good” in order to make things “fair”. What is fair and the greater good is defined by the elites. The elites, however, are not subject to these sacrifices since they need to be unencumbered with fiscal realities in order to have time to come up with more sacrificial projects to interfere with the lives of others.

For these enlightened elites, America is divided into three groups: dependents, those who rule over them and, the rest, collateral damage.

The US Army has commissioned a real-life Iron Man suit called the Tactical Assault Light Operator Suit (Talos), inspired by Tony Stark’s legendary nanosuit used in the Iron Man movie series.

Talos will provide its wearer with powers straight out of a Marvel comic – including night vision, enhanced strength for lifting heavy objects and armoured protection from bullets and combat injuries.

According to The Verge, the suit will be based on nanotechnology and embed an onboard computation chip, that can instantly respond to ambient conditions such as external temperature and adjust to the wearer’s core body and skin temperature, besides monitoring the heart rate and hydration levels.
The armour suit, currently under development at MIT, is designed to offer full-body ballistic protection, enabling the wearer to emerge unscathed even through a barrage of bullets.
The design incorporates a special liquid armour, capable of turning solid in “milliseconds” when subjected to electric or magnetic fields, as well as basic life-support mechanisms such as heat, air and oxygen.

MIT professor Gareth McKinley has reportedly been working on the liquid armour project since 2002. His work is inspired by a US Special Operations Command (Ussocom) challenge to create a suit that combines the power of nanotechnology with the endurance of Kevlar metal in the making of the ultimate body armour.

According to DVICE, the request for superior body armour was presented at a recent US military press conference, owing to a trooper who was shot dead by the Taliban during a hostage rescue mission.The soldier was apparently shot from the other side of the door, while he was barging in for a breach.
Ussocom has reportedly already asked several agencies from academia, science and commerce to assess and implement the Talos technology in real-life.
The nano suit development is still in its nascent stages and it may take more than a year for Ussocom to complete the project.

ATF tries to block Fast and Furious whistle-blower from publishing book

The ATF agent who blew the whistle on Operation Fast and Furious has been denied permission to write a book on the botched anti-gun trafficking sting “because it would have a negative impact on morale,” according to the very agency responsible for the scandal.

After first trying to stop the operation internally, ATF Agent John Dodson went to Congress and eventually the media following the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in December 2010. Two guns found at the murder scene were sold through the ATF operation.
Dodson’s book, titled “The Unarmed Truth,” provides the first inside account of how the federal government permitted and helped sell some 2,000 guns to Mexican drug cartels, despite evidence the guns killed innocent people.
Dodson, who is working with publisher Simon & Schuster, submitted his manuscript to the department for review, per federal rules. However, it was denied.
Greg Serres, an ATF ethics official, told Dodson that any of his supervisors at any level could disapprove outside employment “for any reason.”
Serres letter said: “This would have a negative impact on morale in the Phoenix Field Division and would have a detremental effect [sic] on our relationships with DEA and FBI.”
The national office of the American Civil Liberties Association is representing Dodson as he fights the decision. ACLU attorney Lee Rowland says the agency’s restriction is overly broad.
Rather than provide a specific objection which would allow for a line-by-line redaction, ATF used a policy that “grants supervisors the discretion to censor critical speech simply because it annoys or embarrasses the ATF,” Rowland wrote in a letter delivered Monday.
“Given the national importance of both the Fast and Furious operation and ATF practices more broadly, ATF faces an extremely high burden in demonstrating that its interests outweigh Agent Dodson’s right to speak — and the public’s right to hear — his views about Operation Fast and Furious,” she explained.
First Amendment rights are especially strong when the speech affected deals with public policy, Rowland said, requiring the government to meet a very high bar. Precisely because Dodson’s views differ dramatically from those of his supervisors, his “thoughts and opinions” should not be censored, Rowland said.
Fox News legal analyst Lis Wiehl said the federal code prohibiting employees from outside compensation from speeches and writing could pose a significant problem for Dodson.
“He is still an agent with the ATF and the ATF has very strict restrictions,” Wiehl said. “You can’t receive compensation for outside employment, including writing a book, without permission.”
On the other hand, Wiehl said, the ATF may have overplayed its hand by saying it can deny publication “for any reason.”
“What kind of hubris is that when a whistle-blower wants to go on public record — the First Amendment says he should be able to go forward,” she said. “The ATF created their own embarrassment, maybe its own negligence — that agent Dodson had the courage to reveal. And now he is being punished for that.”
The ACLU argues ATF rules are “constitutionally inadequate (and result) in impermissible censorship of the speech of a public employee.”
Dodson says “The Unarmed Truth” will come out in January, with or without the ATF’s permission.

Fountain Hills man dropped from health insurance because of new regulations

A Fountain Hills man says he may soon have to get another job just to pay for healthcare insurance under the new Affordable Care Act.

Michael Cerpok, is a high school drop-out, one of six kids born to a school teacher, and doesn’t come from a wealthy family. He has run two businesses for more than 25 years and says he may have to do more to literally stay alive.

“I’ve worked hard because I’ve had to, and I’ve had to, because cancer runs in my family,” says Cerpok, who picked his current health insurance based on that family history. His monthly premium is just about half of his monthly take-home pay.

Back in 2006, he found out he had an incurable form of leukemia that requires ongoing treatment until he dies.

In 2012, his treatment bill was more than $350,000. But because of his insurance, his out-of-pocket was only $4,500.

That’s about to change because Michael just got a letter from his insurance carrier saying as of January 1, he would be dropped from coverage because of new regulations under Obamacare. His doctor at the Mayo Clinic may be gone as well.

“Now it doesn’t mean I can’t go see my current doctor, but my $4,500 out-of-pocket, is going to turn into a minimum of $26,000 out-of-pocket to see the doctor that I’ve been seeing the last seven years,” he said.

Michael realizes millions of people will benefit from the coverage, but he wants them to realize that others are making sacrifices to make that happen.

He says that he and his wife will continue to look at their options, try and find a similar plan, and if they need to, they’ll pick up second jobs.

But it’s certainly odd that on October 2, two days in to the government shutdown, Powell announced that he would be holding a Thursday photo shoot with President Obama via Facebook:

On Friday, Rep. Lee Terry (R-NE) told Breitbart News that President Obama was illegally furloughing approximately two thousand federal civilian defense contractors at Offutt Air Force Base, in direct contravention of the Pay Our Military Act, passed last week through Congress and signed by Obama himself. Those four thousand employees represent approximately two thirds of the civilian personnel at Offutt Air Force Base.

The Pay Our Military Act explicitly promises “such sums as are necessary to provide pay and allowances to the civilian personnel of the Department of Defense (and the Department of Homeland Security in the case of the Coast Guard) whom the Secretary concerned determines are providing support to members of the Armed Forces.” According to Terry, Congress intent was to keep support personnel on the job, especially given that US Strategic Command is operated out of Offutt Air Force Base. STRATCOM “integrates and coordinates the necessary command and control capability to provide support with the most accurate and timely information for the President, the Secretary of Defense, other National Leadership and regional combatant commanders.”
“I’m very upset with the White House decision to force furloughs, which I think are illegal furloughs because the law he signed last Saturday,” Terry told Breitbart News exclusively. “This is a political game that they’re playing, endangering this country. They’ve had to lay off over 60 percent of their civilian employees, who are all basically retired military who just keep the same jobs and become civilians. These are integral people to protecting our nuclear arsenal and to our military readiness. This is a dangerous game this president is playing.”

“Airplane mechanics are being furloughed,” a representative from Terry’s office stated. “How is that not critical to getting an airplane off the ground if we need to? This is an illegal furlough. The President is completely breaking the law. Congress passed it unanimously, he signed it into law, and now he’s breaking that very law.”

On Thursday, Terry penned a letter to Obama demanding that he bring the employees back to work: “I have been doing some research on this issue over the last couple of days. I have found that both the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) have directed Acting Under Secretary of the Air Force Jamie Morin to direct the combatant commands to hold the line and not allow anyone other than ‘excepted’ employees to work. This is contrary to what Congress intended and needs to be rectified as soon as possible….This is unacceptable and needs to be overruled. Mr. President, Congress specifically sent this bipartisan legislation to you for your signature, because we all believe that these hard working patriots should not be pawns in this chess game”

Terry concluded, “It is very important as Commander-in-Chief to direct all of the combat commands to follow the law and bring back the workers who have been furloughed and do it as soon as possible.”

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) told Breitbart News exclusively, “President Obama is jeopardizing our national security just to play politics on this shutdown.”

A portion of the website of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) was apparently hacked as long as two months ago. SAMHSA is an agency of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). HHS also runs the new Obamacare insurance marketplace, Healthcare.gov.
Dozens of pages hawking retail merchandise have been uploaded to the SAMHSA site, ranging from NFL jerseys to Ugg shoes to Armani fragrances. Screen captures of the various pages are shown here:



Clicking on the pages in some cases takes users directly to an external website; other times, certain functions seem to operate within the samhsa.gov site. Of the websites investigated, two domains are registered in the United States and one in China.

Almost two weeks ago, we reported that Barry Soetoro, an alias of Barack Hussein Obama, was registered to vote in Washington, D.C. Granted, many think this was a hoax and someone other than Obama registered Barry Soetoro in DC. We knew at the time that Barack Obama was registered in Chicago, Illinois and did vote there in 2008 and 2012. However, after the information about Barry Soetoro being registered to vote in Washington, DC, the DC Board of Elections has scrubbed the voter registration for Barry Soetoro with no explanation.
If you recall, we provided the image of the District of Columbia Board of Elections search of Barry Soetoro, which you can see below dated July 20, 2013. Notice he was registered 22 days before the 2012 elections.

While we are told that Barack Obama took the name Barry Soetoro due to the fact that his mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, had married Lolo Soetoro on March 15, 1965 when he was just four years old. Young Barry Soetoro and his mother went to live with Soetoro in Indonesia when he was only 6 years old, but that time was short lived as he was sent to Honolulu to live with his maternal grandparents at age 10.
We have no records of Obama changing his name from “Barry Soetoro” back to Barack Hussein Obama, Jr.

Board of Elections and Ethics (DCBEE) director asking for a copy of the voter registration, if Soetoro voted in the Nov. 6, 2012 election, and what the process is for verifying voter registrations submitted by mail and online. This is the response from Senior Staff Attorney Terri Stroud at the DCBEE Office of the General Counsel:
“I am writing to acknowledge the receipt of your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request dated July 22, 2013. In accordance with D.C. Official Code § 2-532(c), I will either make the documents you have requested, or a legally segregable portion thereof, available to you, or notify you of my determination not to make the requested documents available, on or before Monday, August 12, 2013, which is the 15th business day after the date upon which I received your request.”
So now let’s see if the Obama administration will allow the FOIA to be granted and if the documents will be made available to the public.
UPDATE: I discovered this little tidbit of information at the DC Board of Elections website. In a press release dated June 14, 2010, the DC Board of Elections wrote,

The Board’s regulations direct that any voter whose mail is returned undeliverable is to be deleted
from the voter registration list if they do not cast a ballot and fail to respond to notices over the
next two subsequent general elections for federal office. However, the Board does not entirely
delete any record from its voter registration database. While records of individuals removed from
the list of registered voters are marked as ‘deleted’ and do not appear in the poll book at precincts
on Election Day, the record itself remains on file permanently and can be reinstated.
District residents are encouraged to register to vote or update their registration using the Board’s
online tool at http://www.dcboee.org and to submit their completed voter registration application by
mail by August 16, 2010. Between August 17 and August 30, residents can only register in
person at the Board’s office. Once early voting begins on August 30 and at the polls on Election
Day, residents can only register and cast a ballot if they bring with them a current photo ID,
utility bill, bank statement, or government document listing their current address. Those
individuals will be required to cast a special ballot, which will only be counted if the Board
verifies that the voter meets all qualifications and has provided proper proof of residence.

So, this voter registration was made in October, which meant that Barry Soetoro had to appear with a current photo ID, utility bill, bank statement, or government document listing his current address. Furthermore, one wonders why the record of his registration is deleted after less than a year. According to the DC Board of Elections, they don’t do this. Thus, the plot thickens.

Far from being a mistype, that’s the official number that Health and Human Services wants Americans to dial when seeking health care. Obamacare’s national call center really did list its number as 1-800-318-2596, helpfully spelling out President Barack Obama’s tendency to blatantly flip the bird in plain view.

After allowing for the lack of letters attached to 1 on a traditional American telephone keypad, the number spells out a clear message. For every duped voter, every young invincible weighing the cost of a penalty versus a newly tripled yearly deductible, every ailing old granny in a wheelchair (whom, remember, Paul Ryan wants to push off a cliff) who needs adequate and affordable health care, Obama’s message is:

1-800-3(F) 8(U) 2(C) 5(K) 9(Y) 6(O).

That’s 1-800-FUCKYO. Sadly, the Obama administration failed to swap the useless 1 for a more functional 8 to complete the heartfelt message, perhaps in consolation to former White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel’s tragically shortened middle finger.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius launched a media campaign this week to propagandize the transformative health-care overhaul. She compared the sweeping, coercive law that gives government huge power over the health-care industry to an iPhone system update.

National Park Officials closed down the educational Claude Moore Colonial Farm near the CIA in McLean, Va., even though the federal government doesn’t fund or staff the park popular with children and schools. Just because the privately-operated park is on Park Service land, making the federal government simply its landlord, the agency decided to close it.

A Claude Moore Colonial Farm official said that the privately-funded staff is on the job Wednesday, but barred from letting anybody visit the historically accurate buildings or animals. Anna Eberly, the managing director, sent out an email decrying the decision and rude National Park Service staff handling the closure.

Pointing to Park Service claims that parks have to be closed because the agency can’t afford staff during the government closure, Eberly wrote: “What utter crap. We have operated the Farm successfully for 32 years after the NPS cut the Farm from its budget in 1980 and are fully staffed and prepared to open today. But there are barricades at the Pavilions and entrance to the Farm. And if you were to park on the grass and visit on your own, you run the risk of being arrested. Of course, that will cost the NPS staff salaries to police the Farm against intruders while leaving it open will cost them nothing.”

She added: “In all the years I have worked with the National Park Service, first as a volunteer for six years in Richmond where I grew up, then as an NPS employee at the for eight very long years and now enjoyably as managing director for the last 32 years — I have never worked with a more arrogant, arbitrary and vindictive group representing the NPS. I deeply apologize that we have to disappoint you today by being closed but know that we are working while the National Park Service is not — as usual.”

The National Park Service is sending so many officials out to shut down federal parks that it might have to suspend furloughs if the government closure continues.

At the World War II Memorial on The Mall in Washington, where veterans have been staging protests to keep it open, Washington Examiner reports that at least seven officials were dispatched Wednesday morning to set up a ring of barricades to block tourists from the memorial. That is two more than the State Department had in Benghazi a year ago on the night of the terrorist attack that killed four, including the U.S. ambassador.

Vets sweep past barricades in defiance of slimdown

What was meant to be a final gathering of heroes Tuesday instead became a final victory for dozens of World War II combat vets who refused to let the government’s budget battle block a visit to their memorial in the nation’s capital.
With bagpipers playing “Amazing Grace,” nearly 200 veterans from Mississippi and Iowa swept past barricades and security guards at the World War II Memorial in Washington in order to keep a commitment to visit the site, which was closed today due to the partial government shutdown. The veterans, in their 80s and 90s, were accompanied by Rep. Steven Palazzo, R-Miss., a former Marine who earlier vowed not to let the National Park Police keep them from a planned visit to the open-air monument.
“Well, I would have been so down-and-out if I got all the way up here and wasn’t able to get in,” Navy veteran Oscar Leroy Russell, 90, who is blind after he suffered a stroke, told FoxNews.com.

Some veterans on hand wiped away tears when they saw a crowd waving the American flag as they came out of their bus.
“These men and women didn’t cower to the Japanese and Germans,” Palazzo said. “I don’t think they’re about to let a few National Park Police stand in their way.”
Palazzo, who was joined by several other members of Congress, moved the barricades at the memorial and police did not try to stop the veterans’ access.
“I’m not going to enforce the ‘no stopping or standing’ sign for a group of 90 World War II veterans,” a U.S. Park Police officer, who declined to give his name, told The Washington Post. “I’m a veteran myself.”
The veterans are traveling as part of Honor Flight, a program that enables World War II veterans to partake in an expense-paid trip to view the memorial. Tuesday’s trip is the second-to-last flight, with the last scheduled for November. But prior to their arrival early Tuesday, there was fear that the government shutdown and federal worker furloughs would mean no access to the monuments on the National Mall.
But with lawmakers leading the charge, the American military heroes, some in wheelchairs, surged into the memorial.
“It’s better to ask for forgiveness than permission,” Palazzo said. “We lined the veterans up along the blockade, we saw an opening and we took it.”
Joe Cleveland, of Union, Miss., told The Mississippi Press that he would “be thinking about the many battles that have been fought and thanking all those who were willing to go fight for our country.”
Palazzo noted his grandfather, Manuel McCarty, served in World War II at Guadalcanal and Okinawa. Palazzo was 7 years old when his grandfather died and said he sees his grandfather in these veterans.
“I only have a couple of memories of my grandfather,” said Palazzo, who has taken part of Honor Flights before. “But each time I see these men, I envision how he’d be.”
Congressman Bill Huizenga, of Michigan, told GulfLive.com that “this is the best civil disobedience we’ve seen in Washington in a while.”

As Crisis Unfolds, Obama Sets Personal Golf Record

As the House moved Saturday toward passing legislation that will likely result in a government shutdown, President Obama excused himself to play his customary Saturday golf, a round that set a record for most golf outings in a year since he became president.
It is perhaps emblematic of his declining influence on Capitol Hill that Obama chose not to work to affect the outcome of one of the most consequential pieces of legislation in years and instead engaged in his favorite recreational activity.
The House bill would maintain government funding only if Obamacare is delayed a year, setting up a likely government shutdown Monday at Midnight if as expected the Senate fails to agree. The White House has said Obama would veto the bill, which passed early Sunday.
Though the first year of a president’s second term is the most crucial for getting things done before lame duck status starts to set in, Obama as of Saturday has played golf golf 35 times in 2013, eclipsing the previous mark of 34 he set in 2011. And there’s still plenty of golf weather left in Washington. Meanwhile, he may well hit the links several times more once he gets to Hawaii for the Christmas holiday.
Last year, with an election to be won, Obama only played 19 times. He golfed 28 times in 2009 and 30 times in 2010.
Obama made no public remarks Saturday, leaving it to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney to issue a statement on the House bill while the White House released Obama’s his pre-recorded weekly address, which discussed his opposition to the House measure.

Obama administration: Lawmakers, staff can get abortion coverage

The Office of Personnel Management ruled Monday that members of Congress and their staffs will be able to buy health care plans that pay for abortions, even though the premiums are funded largely by taxpayer money — a move that conservatives say breaks federal law on abortion funding.
Under the terms of Obamacare, lawmakers and their aides are required to ditch their government-sponsored plans and buy insurance on state-based health care exchanges, though unlike most people on the exchanges, the staffers and members will have most of the costs of their premiums paid by their employer — in this case, taxpayers.

WASHINGTON — Following the epic, 21-hour speech by Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, supporting the defunding of Obamacare, either voters made so many calls to establishment Republicans that their phone lines melted, or those GOP leaders took their phones off the hook.
Even in this age of digital wizardry and limitless voicemail, callers could not get through at all to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.
A message said the senator was experiencing a high volume of calls and directed members of the public to call back later or visit his website.
It was the same story with the man who was the face of the GOP in the 2008 elections, former GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
His phone was off the hook, too. Callers got a message stating his voicemail box was full.
The Arizona senator apparently had other matters on his mind during the Cruz speech, tweeting, “Final episode of #Broadchurch tonight – one of the most entertaining shows on TV right now.”
That prompted conservative commentator Michelle Malkin to tweet, “Meanwhile, McCain is tweeting about a TV show. See the problem here, America?”
Callers to Minority Whip Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, also got a message saying the line was busy, but at least those callers were sent to voicemail.
“Vile” calls from Cruz supporters
Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., who has called Cruz a “fraud” for his efforts to defund Obamacare, said Thursday supporters of the Texas senator have been bombarding his office with “vile” phone calls.
“The vehemence of the phone calls coming into the office. I don’t care, people can call me whatever they want … I haven’t heard such vile, profane, obscene language,” King said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Thursday.
“I’m not saying Ted Cruz is responsible for all his supporters, but he has tapped into a dark strain here in the American political psyche here, and again, the most obscene, profane stuff you can imagine all from people who say they support the Constitution,” King said. “I think what we have to do is reach out to his people and let them know that they’re following a false leader here.”

GOP leader opposes defunding
McConnell announced Monday he does not support the attempt by Cruz to defund Obamacare.
The GOP Senate leader claimed he opposes Obamacare, but he refused to support Cruz’s effort to block a vote on cloture, which effectively doomed the House bill that would have defunded Obamacare.
McConnell would have needed to get only 41 out of 46 Republican senators to vote to block cloture, but he would not support the effort.
He, and other establishment Republicans, fear they would take the blame for any government shutdown, even though the House bill is specifically designed to force Democrats to be the ones to shut down the government, should they refuse to defund Obamacare.
Neither party supporting Americans
That puts most Americans in the odd position of having neither the Democratic Party, nor the Republican Party, supporting their position on Obamacare.
A CBS News poll found most Americans, 52 percent, disapprove of Obamacare.

Analysts believe GOP leaders refuse to mobilize their rank-and-file to fight Obamcare because they are afraid a government shutdown could cost them at the polls in the 2014 elections.

Since McConnell directed his constituents to go to the Internet to express their views to him, WND went to his Facebook page to see what voters have to say.
At 1:20 p.m. ET on Wednesday, McConnell posted this message on his Facebook page:
“All we need are 5 Senate Democrats to show enough courage to stand against their party and with the American people on this vote”
He got more than 100 responses, and almost all of them were extremely critical of the senator.

Cruz is hoping for a more positive response from voters, hoping to harness the power of public opinion to persuade GOP leaders and wavering Democrats to defund Obamacare.

The next vote, Friday or Saturday, Cruz said, is “the vote that matters.”
Cloture explained
That’s a vote on cloture, a proposal to cut off debate, and it will determine whether there will be a 50- or a 60-vote threshold for making changes to the bill.
If it passes, Senate Majority leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., could easily add language to the bill restoring funding for Obamacare, because he would need only 50 votes. Republicans have only 46 votes in the Senate, Democrats have 52 and there are two independents. Cruz wants to make sure the threshold to change the bill would be 60 votes.
Cruz said, if the GOP goes along with Democrats and votes for cloture it will doom the effort to defund Obamacare.
Up to the people, now
Following the Texan’s marathon speech, Lee’s communications director Brian Phillips told WND, “It’s up to the American people, now. If they want their senator to vote the right way, their senator has to hear from them.”
But if voters can’t call their senators because the phones are off the hook, they can contact them on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
Or voters could try calling the senators at their home offices.

WASHINGTON — Following the epic, 21-hour speech by Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, supporting the defunding of Obamacare, either voters made so many calls to establishment Republicans that their phone lines melted, or those GOP leaders took their phones off the hook.
Even in this age of digital wizardry and limitless voicemail, callers could not get through at all to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.
A message said the senator was experiencing a high volume of calls and directed members of the public to call back later or visit his website.
It was the same story with the man who was the face of the GOP in the 2008 elections, former GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
His phone was off the hook, too. Callers got a message stating his voicemail box was full.
The Arizona senator apparently had other matters on his mind during the Cruz speech, tweeting, “Final episode of #Broadchurch tonight – one of the most entertaining shows on TV right now.”
That prompted conservative commentator Michelle Malkin to tweet, “Meanwhile, McCain is tweeting about a TV show. See the problem here, America?”
Callers to Minority Whip Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, also got a message saying the line was busy, but at least those callers were sent to voicemail.
“Vile” calls from Cruz supporters
Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., who has called Cruz a “fraud” for his efforts to defund Obamacare, said Thursday supporters of the Texas senator have been bombarding his office with “vile” phone calls.
“The vehemence of the phone calls coming into the office. I don’t care, people can call me whatever they want … I haven’t heard such vile, profane, obscene language,” King said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Thursday.
“I’m not saying Ted Cruz is responsible for all his supporters, but he has tapped into a dark strain here in the American political psyche here, and again, the most obscene, profane stuff you can imagine all from people who say they support the Constitution,” King said. “I think what we have to do is reach out to his people and let them know that they’re following a false leader here.”

GOP leader opposes defunding
McConnell announced Monday he does not support the attempt by Cruz to defund Obamacare.
The GOP Senate leader claimed he opposes Obamacare, but he refused to support Cruz’s effort to block a vote on cloture, which effectively doomed the House bill that would have defunded Obamacare.
McConnell would have needed to get only 41 out of 46 Republican senators to vote to block cloture, but he would not support the effort.
He, and other establishment Republicans, fear they would take the blame for any government shutdown, even though the House bill is specifically designed to force Democrats to be the ones to shut down the government, should they refuse to defund Obamacare.
Neither party supporting Americans
That puts most Americans in the odd position of having neither the Democratic Party, nor the Republican Party, supporting their position on Obamacare.
A CBS News poll found most Americans, 52 percent, disapprove of Obamacare.

Democrats favor the health-care law because they consider it the president’s signature achievement.
Analysts believe GOP leaders refuse to mobilize their rank-and-file to fight Obamcare because they are afraid a government shutdown could cost them at the polls in the 2014 elections.

Since McConnell directed his constituents to go to the Internet to express their views to him, WND went to his Facebook page to see what voters have to say.
At 1:20 p.m. ET on Wednesday, McConnell posted this message on his Facebook page:
“All we need are 5 Senate Democrats to show enough courage to stand against their party and with the American people on this vote”
He got more than 100 responses, and almost all of them were extremely critical of the senator.

Power of public opinion
Cruz is hoping for a more positive response from voters, hoping to harness the power of public opinion to persuade GOP leaders and wavering Democrats to defund Obamacare.
Cruz and Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, have collected more than 1.7 million signatures on their online petition to stop Obamacare called “Don’t Fund It!”
The next vote, Friday or Saturday, Cruz said, is “the vote that matters.”
Cloture explained
That’s a vote on cloture, a proposal to cut off debate, and it will determine whether there will be a 50- or a 60-vote threshold for making changes to the bill.
If it passes, Senate Majority leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., could easily add language to the bill restoring funding for Obamacare, because he would need only 50 votes. Republicans have only 46 votes in the Senate, Democrats have 52 and there are two independents. Cruz wants to make sure the threshold to change the bill would be 60 votes.
Cruz said, if the GOP goes along with Democrats and votes for cloture it will doom the effort to defund Obamacare.
Up to the people, now
Following the Texan’s marathon speech, Lee’s communications director Brian Phillips told WND, “It’s up to the American people, now. If they want their senator to vote the right way, their senator has to hear from them.”
But if voters can’t call their senators because the phones are off the hook, they can contact them on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
Or voters could try calling the senators at their home offices.

The raid that supposedly led to Bin Laden’s death has been shrouded in mystery for over two years. Speculation that the Obama administration may have embellished or outright lied about the true account of what happened has persisted, mainly because the White House has refused to publicly release images of Bin Laden’s body.

Although the White House said the corpse was immediately “buried at sea” in line with Islamic tradition, it quickly emerged that this was not standard practice.

Numerous analysts have claimed that Bin Laden had in fact been dead for years and that the raid on his alleged compound in Pakistan was little more than a stunt.

Other questions also persist, such as why the narrative and timeline of the raid has changed multiple times, why the White House initially claimed that “situation room” photos showed Obama watching the raid live when in fact there was a blackout on the live feed, and why neighbors in the immediate area surrounding the compound said with absolute certainty that they had never seen Bin Laden and that they knew of no evidence whatsoever to suggest he lived there.

During the rest of the Guardian interview, which is well worth reading in its entirety, Hersh lambastes the corporate press and particularly the New York Times, which he says spends “so much more time carrying water for Obama than I ever thought they would.”

Hersh’s solution is to shut down news networks like NBC and ABC and fire 90% of mainstream editors, replacing them with real journalists who are outsiders and not afraid to speak truth to power.

About $600,000 in federal stimulus funds were used to plant trees in some of Denver’s priciest neighborhoods at no cost to homeowners, according to a KCNC-TV report.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act program had no income guidelines, so trees were planted in upscale areas of the city at about $150 apiece, the station reported.

City forester Rob Davis said the now-defunct program was developed to help boost the economy by creating tree-planting jobs and to provide homeowners with long-term savings in energy costs.

“It’s open to anybody,” Davis told the station. “It’s basically if you live in Denver, you want to reduce your energy costs, you want to have a tree that can raise your property value, go to the web page to sign up.”

John Backlund, who lives in a home worth more than $700,000, told the station he agreed to take a tree after he was approached by a government worker going door-to-door trying to give them away.

“Too good of a deal to say no to. I was happy to get the free tree,” Backlund said.

While some trees were planted in middle- and lower-income neighborhoods, the federal government rejected a proposal by the city to keep the trees out of neighborhoods with high-end homes.

“The program was turned down by the government as their interest was in funding programs that created jobs and helped citizens reduce overall energy costs,” city Parks and Recreation spokesman Jeff Green told KCNC-TV.com.

Green said the department recognizes that many trees ended up in high-income neighborhoods and plans to attempt to remedy the imbalance.

“We want to have a better understanding of why residents in these areas don’t take advantage of the free tree programs,” Green told the station. “Our forestry group will be studying this and making changes to the program so that we can focus on those areas that need trees the most.”

In 2009, the U.S. Forest Service awarded $490,000 of stimulus money to a similar project in Nevada aimed at revitalizing urban neighborhoods in the county with trees, plants, and green-industry training.

During his Tuesday remarks at the Clinton Global Initiative, President Obama admitted that his health care law raises taxes: “So what we did — it’s paid for by a combination of things. We did raise taxes on some things.”
“Some things” is an understatement. Below is just a partial list of Obamacare’s new or higher taxes on Americans:
Starting in tax year 2013:
Obamacare Medical Device Tax: Medical device manufacturers employ 409,000 people in 12,000 plants across the country. Obamacare imposes a new 2.3 percent excise tax on gross sales – even if the company does not earn a profit in a given year. In addition to killing small business jobs and impacting research and development budgets, this will make everything from pacemakers to artificial hips more expensive.

Obamacare High Medical Bills Tax: Before Obamacare, Americans facing high medical expenses were allowed a deduction to the extent that those expenses exceeded 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income (AGI). Obamacare now imposes a threshold of 10 percent of AGI. Therefore, Obamacare not only makes it more difficult to claim this deduction, it widens the net of taxable income.
According to the IRS, 10 million families took advantage of this tax deduction in 2009, the latest year of available data. Almost all are middle class. The average taxpayer claiming this deduction earned just over $53,000 annually. ATR estimates that the average income tax increase for the average family claiming this tax benefit will be $200 – $400 per year. To learn more about this tax, click here.
Obamacare Flexible Spending Account Tax: The 30 – 35 million Americans who use a pre-tax Flexible Spending Account (FSA) at work to pay for their family’s basic medical needs face a new Obamacare cap of $2,500. This will squeeze $13 billion of tax money from Americans over the next ten years. (Before Obamacare, the accounts were unlimited under federal law, though employers were allowed to set a cap.) Now, a parent looking to sock away extra money to pay for braces will find themselves quickly hitting this new cap, meaning they would have to pony up some or all of the cost with after-tax dollars.
Needless to say, this tax will especially impact middle class families.
There is one group of FSA owners for whom this new cap will be particularly cruel and onerous: parents of special needs children. Nationwide there are several million families with special needs children and many of them use FSAs to pay for special needs education. Tuition rates at one leading school that teaches special needs children in Washington, D.C. (National Child Research Center) can easily exceed $14,000 per year. Under tax rules, FSA dollars can be used to pay for this type of special needs education. This Obamacare tax provision will limit the options available to these families.
Obamacare Super Saver Surtax: A new, 3.8 percent surtax on investment income earned in households making at least $250,000 ($200,000 single). This tax hike results in the following top tax rates on investment income:

*Other unearned income includes (for surtax purposes) gross income from interest, annuities, royalties, net rents, and passive income in partnerships and Subchapter-S corporations. It does not include municipal bond interest or life insurance proceeds, since those do not add to gross income. It does not include active trade or business income, fair market value sales of ownership in pass-through entities, or distributions from retirement plans. (Bill: Reconciliation Act; Page: 87-93)
Obamacare Medicare Payroll Tax Increase:

Starting in tax year 2014:
Obamacare Individual Mandate Non-Compliance Tax: Starting in 2014, anyone not buying “qualifying” health insurance – as defined by President Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services — must pay an income surtax to the IRS. The Congressional Budget Office recently estimated that six million American families will be liable for the tax, and as pointed out by the Associated Press: “Most would be in the middle class.”
In addition, 100 percent of Americans filing a tax return (140 million filers) will be forced to submit paperwork to the IRS showing they either had “qualifying” health insurance for every month of the tax year or they obtained an exemption to the mandate.
Americans liable for the surtax will pay according to the following schedule:

(Delayed by Obama to 2015) Obamacare Employer Mandate Tax: If an employer does not offer health coverage, and at least one employee qualifies for a health tax credit, the employer must pay an additional non-deductible tax of $2,000 for all full-time employees. This provision applies to all employers with 50 or more employees. If any employee actually receives coverage through the exchange, the penalty on the employer for that employee rises to $3,000. If the employer requires a waiting period to enroll in coverage of 30-60 days, there is a $400 tax per employee ($600 if the period is 60 days or longer).
Obamacare Tax on Health Insurers: Annual tax on the industry imposed relative to health insurance premiums collected that year. The tax phases in gradually until 2018. Fully imposed on firms with $50 million in profits.
Starting in tax year 2018:
Obamacare Tax on Union Member and Early Retiree Health Insurance Plans: Obamacare imposes
a new 40 percent excise tax on high cost or “Cadillac” health insurance plans, effective in 2018. This tax increase will most directly affect union families and early retirees, who are likely to be covered by such plans. This Obamacare tax will be levied on insurance policies whose premiums exceed $10,200 for an individual and $27,500 for a family. Middle class union members tend to be covered by such plans in states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Higher threshold ($11,500 single/$29,450 family) for early retirees and high-risk professions. CPI +1 percentage point indexed.

The past is not prologue: The burden increases ten-fold in 2014

As it turns out, the average family of 4 has only had to face a relatively modest burden from Obamacare over the past four years—a little over $125. Unfortunately, this year’s average burden ($66) will be 10 times as large in 2014 when Obamacare kicks in for earnest. And it will rise for two years after that, after which it hit a steady-state level of just under $800 a year. Of course, all these figures are in nominal dollars. In terms of today’s purchasing power, this annual amount will rise steadily.
